    TAL scopes
Since they are box shifters I would reckon a lot of after sales support.

Also - might be more fun than Tasco if not better.

    spherical newtonian scope - portable - £34.95
though I'd reckon it's a cheap copy rather then the original.

TAL are an excellent make of telescope. In fact, their mounts that come with the scope are so sturdy and accurate, its the mount that you are actualy paying for! If you can afford an 8" TAL, go for it!

I have nothing against Tasco scopes (Santa brought me a 3" inch one time - still have it), though others will disagree. BUT, generallykeep away from the really cheap scopes - you get what you pay for, whihc in this case will be a lot of chromatic abberation - stars will appear to have arms and legs!
