synethic engine oil

    Just a quick question. i have a mitsubushi l200 and i was recommened to use a fully synethic engine oil. But it is so expensive can i use ordinary engine oil??
    Does it give me better performance.

    You could probably get away with semi synth if you change the oil more frequently so it's a false economy but I'd be very wary about using a mineral oil where synth is specified, especially if the car was worth any money.

    The simple answer to this is, check your handbook/service guide and use whatever oil is specified there. It'll say that you need oil designed for diesel engines and it will specify the vicosity and the ACEA grade (A1, B1 etc.) It may also specify semi synthetic or synthetic - if it doesn't say anything, then use semi synthetic. Stick to what the book says and change the oil at the recommended intervals (5000 miles on the L200 IIRC) Use a branded oil like Havoline, Mobil, Duckhams, Castrol etc, any will do, don't listen to people who spread myths about certain brands being great and others being sh1te or who generally spout uninformed opinions about oil.

    lenwoods when they were open were selling penzoil fully synthetic 5litre for 18 euro. needless to say i bought 12 of them. several years later now and im nearly out of them :( anyone do pennzoil now?

    You got a good deal there. I'd say that for 5 litres of synethic oil these days is about 35-50 Euros.
