Recording from NTL Digital

Is there a function on the NTL Digibox that allows you to program the box to change channels at a particular time ? - so you can record things from 2 different channels (at different times obviously) while you are out ?

I assume there is such a thing .. can anyone confirm ?

The only way to do this really is to set up AutoView programmes in the Diary function of ntl digital, so the digibox will switch the channels over, when the programme you select comes on and you will have to set your VCR timer to record at the appropriate times. The ntl box isn't user friendly at all when it comes to recording - you will have to leave the digibox on (ie. out of standby, tuned to a channel) as the autoview will not switch the digibox out of standby.

One supplementary question ... NTLs EPG is only 3 days ? - can you set up this diary function further into the future than that ?

Nope, you can't change it, it used to be an 8-day epg, but it was reduced with the last software update to 3 days.

I think they done it to save bandwidth.

Doubt it - a lot of people with any boxes which happen to be running on the old v5.26 software still have a full 8 day EPG with listings and all - and the EPG seemed better than the one now!

works fine for me:

scart from set top box to vcr
vcr on correct channel (eg E1 / L1 / AUX1 - depends on make)
*tip put telly on vcr channel to check if not sure
browse to the prog u want to tape and press SELECT / OK on ntl remote
you will get a REMIND (RED) / AUTOTUNE (BLUE) option - select BLUE

set your vcr to record from the E1 / L1 / AUX1 ... channel at the program start time

as per chorus techy - leave the STB on a channel
about 1 or 2 mins before the prog is about to start a small screen appears telling you (you get a cancel option here)
the box will change to the channel in time for program start

in case you select REMIND above by mistake:

GUIDE
DIARY (YELLOW)
select the program from the list and use RED to toggle between REMIND & AUTO

best thing to do is set the AUTOTUNE on the STB for a time when you know you are in the house so you can test / see it happening

My EPG was 8 days then became a 3 day EPG but the problem is it only ever gives the current days listings as the other two days listings are always unavailable.

By the way does anyone know if the interactive service is ever going to be launched on NTL digital? I did hear somewhere it was meant to be launched something like a year and a half ago but it has never been launched. Very strange!

To get the full 3 day EPG, you must re-boot the box each morning - this is a serious software glitch since they downgraded the EPG.
