There are no words for me to express my feeling about the people who broke into and robbed the church in Mayo taking the money collected for the Asian appeal from the safe.

Yeah i know, its sick isn't it. Its not as if the thieves didnt know what the money had been collected for. Sick individuals.
My Mam is from Mayo and is seriously embarassed over it. She was real proud when the papers reported how much had been collected in Mayo, now she's so disgusted.

They will get their comeuppance don't worry.

There are estimates that over maybe 8 million has been collected at the weekend Masses. If that figure is true it's really phenomenal.

Unfortunatley other countries have even worse examples of scumbagness connected with this disaster.
I was visiting relatives in Denmark and they told me that after they had named some of the people missing their houses were robbed! This stopped the other scandinavian countries releasing the names of people they hadn't accounted for yet.
This kind of thing saddens me so much.

I was saying in another thread about how video footage of disasters are OK, since it's an unavoidable thing - people will die.
Clearly there are quite a few people who take that one step further and think that because a person is dead, then their belongings are fair game - obviously being killed by nature and being killed by man are somehow different.

I don't know, maybe it's the sheer volume of dead that has suddenly exposed this horrible underbelly of humanity. Certainly in my lifetime, we've never seen so many people killed by one incident in such a short space of time. The amount of stories of completely inhumane acts committed in the immediate aftermath is unbelievable. Is this the kind of animalistic stuff we could expect to see, should a world war occur?

There was a story on the BBC website last week about a young woman who was saved from the water by a man, who then proceeded to rape her in a bush. *boggle*. Apart from the savageness of that, it's in fact surreal.

    Brilliant!

But at least it's not as bad as the reported pedo ring that's swung into operation there. Kidnapping orphaned kids. Some truely sick mother****ers around.

Some absolute scumbag has finally been arrested for e-mailing people who he knew were missing family members who disappeared during the tsunamis and telling them their loved ones had been found dead...

    Absolute scumbag

The world is a sick sick place. uh oh I think I have a hernia - a really uncomfortable pain in my stomach and a protruding lump..... is this personal issues?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,124 ✭✭✭Jonny Arson

The robbery of the Tsunami funds from that church is absolutely vial but I think we must all remember that these scum are just a small minority and this dreadful disaster has shown that most of us are incredibly generous thanks to our respective donations and that most of us are compassionate towards human beings. The kindness of the Irish people has been incredible and it this shows that what a wonderful nation we are.

But robbing charity from a church? They couldn't be going a straighter road to hell.Sick people.

Did anyone see the 2.500 euro donated in old irish punts? Good to see.

Eh, not quite €8 million: http://www.rte.ie/news/2005/0110/mayo.html

That's the initial news report. I looked at it and don't see anything about the amount collected. 8 Million was an estimate based on a Trocaire press release. Where's the figure in that link you've given?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭alleepally

I caught Justin Kilcullen on The Late Late tonigh and he's saying estimates are that the Church collection last weekend is expected to be around 12 million.... I still can't get my head around that. It's unprecedented..
