just bare in mind the prices exclude vat and some cases delivery too. as far as i can tell the computers for sale are comps that have been ordered but cancelled. or ordered, delivered and returned. they all come with some sort of 1 year guarantee. i think there is an element of luck to whether you get a good deal or not. most of the builds that are available arent available to buy new anymore. in other words it has a 1.5 processor with a 40 gb drive but now all u can buy is a 1.7. etc. etc. so in a sentance, if you intend on buying a dell either way check the outlet store and u could save 100 euro or more. but u cant look a giftgrub in the mouth.

I got an Inspiron 1150 before Christmas for E580. Arrived a few days later - brand spanking new. It didn't look like it had ever been turned on and there were no scratches etc. Comes with the usual 12 months guarantee (and crappy Dell Customer Care at no extra cost)

Overall very pleased with the purchase. It does seem like the prices have increased on the outlet site recently, though. You have to watch it for a couple of days/weeks to get a good deal.

    Never mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 738 ✭✭✭bbbbb

I also got an Inspiron 1150 before Christmas for E630, delivery was slow (about 3-4 weeks), but again looks like a brand new machine, no problems or complaints so far.
As has been said. Prices look low, but then you have to add VAT and delivery. listing changes by the hour, you need to wait to find a bargain. In some cases its not much of a bargain, similar price to the main store with possible lower spec.
    Good luck!

I got a 8400 3.4G P4 250G SATA 1G DDR2 for €815 before Christmas without a monitor. Full price with a monitor was €1500+ from Dell Store. No complaints. Would agree that you have to monitor the site for a few days as not all offers are good deals.

Delivery from the outlet store is free until midnight on Thursday, its usually €59. Just ordered a P4 3.0GHz, 512 MB RAM, 160GB hard drive and 128MB PCI-Express graphics card for €650.

That incl VAT? Can you PM me the code for that?

I didn't think the prices were that great. Fine in comparision to the Dell main site, but not great compared to the deals you can get else where. You seem to need to watch the site and catch the occasional one that acutally is a good deal.

I've been keeping my eye on it for the last week or so and I agree that it is only the occasional one that is of any interest. My price included VAT. There is another one there at the moment that is a higher spec for €589 ex. VAT. It is P4 3.0 GHZ, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD RW, 512 MB Ram, 128MB nVidia GeForce4 FX5200 with DVI graphics card, the code is ZREAFK9E.

Prefer the price and spec of the machine you got to be honest. Do you have the code for your machine? What model was it the 8300?

The only code I have for the machine is 2C12D1J, I'm not sure if that is any use to you as I would imagine it is unique to each machine. It was dimension 4700 that I got.

The code he used wouldnt be of any use to you, as the spec / price are all unique.

Generally they are machines that have been built to order but the order cancelled due to customer changing their mind, credit being refused, insufficent funds etc.

Returned machines would include machines sent to magazines for review, product demos, as well as machines sent back by customers under the 21 day rule.

My advice is to build what you want on the dell site to get an idea of price and then monitor the outlet store till something comes up of interest.

Bought two Dimension 8400s from there over the past two months. Both are excellent machines, in perfect condition, one cost ~€800 with a monitor and the other ~€600 without. Both are 2.8GHz machines and both arrived with a higher spec than actually listed on the site (one had an FDD, the other had a Zip and FDD - minor, I know, but who am I to complain?).

Between now and the 20th of Jan, there is a further €79 off all prices BEFORE VAT on the outlet site.

Just got myself a sweet Inspiron 8500 with great specs, including a WSXGA+ screen, for €780 incl VAT & Del.
Also free carrycase/rucksack included (make sure you tick both teh money off and the carrycase boxes)

    http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/default.aspx?c=ie&l=en&s=dfh

BTW the link to the inspiron section is broken so just use the dimension one to enter the store and then chage the drop down menu to inspiron...

It always happens!!! I put my order in on Wednesday morning and NOW they have the money off and rucksack

Still have to call them if I don't hear anything on Monday (only received a confirmation email and still no tracking) and maybe kick up some fuss and hopefully get at least a rucksack ;)

That site seems to be bunched. The link to Dimensions is bringing me to the UK oulet store. Can't get to the notebooks at all. Everytime you hit that site its seems to work differently. On minute a link goes one place the next somewhere else.

I ordered from dell outlet. they ****ed up my order originally and it took two weeks of sorting to get the laptop.

however, in the end i got a dell d400, worth around 1800 in total, for 1200 euro.

as far as i can tell, its not been used at all prior to me getting it. top shape overall. three year warantee and all. you gotta keep an eye on it, you'll get some insanely good deals and the others will be only mediocre.

Yeah I got that a lot over the last 2 weeks of visiting it. I just used various browsers to negotiate it and got in.

The guys n gals typing up the prices for that stuff need to quit inhaling whatever it is they're smoking; Insp1150 with a celeron was going for 1050  , whilst on another page there's 7 510m's for 806 :D
Last week some jammy c**t got a fully loaded 5160 with sxga for 950 VAT incl. Configured it woulda cost 1450 except a "b" wireless card...

this link if you can't get in...

I bought a 8400 P4 last night, it was only 700 Euro (after delivery) because it only has 512 MB of memory, but it has a 6800 GT with 256 MB of Ram which is nearly €500 on its own :D .

I think they are priced a little funny with processor, model and memory being the main factors that influence it.

How did you manage that???? I've been looking at that site for the last 2 weeks and I've never seen a decent gfx card on it for any money. Even now a search for 256 cards, only gives you 1 with a 9800 XT. All the other ones are fx5200 and x300 cards. There hasn't been a 9800 on it for ages. never seen a 6800GT on it at all.

Even without the graphics cards I haven't seen a 8400 that cheap on it either. I was beginning to think its cheaper to buy a new one as you get one for a similar spec and a monitor new for 800. No gfx though.

Just to inform you guys make sure you get some sort of confirmation order from Dell after about 3-4 working days or your order may not go through and you'll end up losing your order even if you went through payment details online.

I got put through to Dell India (after Dell UK transferred me) and checked my order, which was non-existant according to her. So I called again and ended up in Dell UK (tried to tranferred me) and asked her about confirmation of order in general. She agreed that if you don't receive a confirmation number within 3-4 days your order probably won't go through.

Now I want to re-order again but afraid I'll end up receiving two laptops and having to send one back and ending up with the carriage costs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,550 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

RicardoSmith: Dunno if it's exactly what you're looking for, but there's a Dimension 8400 with 256MB nVidia Ge Force 6800, 160GB HD, and 1GB RAM up there at the moment for 750 Euro. (System Identifier. EE953VA9).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 778 ✭✭✭dubal

I simply searched for 256 MB of graphics memory. The site is a little funny though as I accidentally closed my browser and the machine wasnt released to the main stock until the morning - I did wait for an hour.

Its also hard to find the exact equipment from their descriptions though you can normally deduce this if you assume that its a reasonably recent model.

I got one of the Xeon Servers they had going about a month ago (2.4Ghz Xeon server for €250). It was Delivered about 2 weeks ago but ordered well over a month before that.
    Sometimes dell are just slow.

Afaik Dell will not even start assembly of the pc until they have received all the money

So what else can be the reason for the outlet pc's?

I've come to the conclussion that they're returned models that either didn't live up to what the original buyer wanted, or that got returned due to a fault which although fixed, the buyer wanted a refund.
That's usually what refurbished implies, and since they still offer their 1 yr warranty with them I have no problem with that.
Just hope they don't manage to screw up my order. Big thanks for the tip on that Block 8)

I've already emailed customer services twice but no reply. Doesn't really matter as there is more laptops that's pretty similar in price to the one I ordered.
Saw in another thread that a new centrino chip is out on the 19th Jan which might make me wait a while and take a look at them or if not, hopefully a drop in price on the rest of the laptops.

I ordered mine yestderday morning. Got a nice big confirmation email in the evening PLUS it has a personal email address (of someone in Dell).

I responded but I got rejected (probably some spam filter), yet I got an email confirmation from Dell some time later.

The tracking says I should receive it on Jan 27. I'll let you know how it goes.

The laptops seem like a decent deal. The PC's less so since theres no screen with them.

I guess the prices are not as good on desktops, but I already have a digital flat panel I am very happy with so it suits me that way.

Hmmm. Seems like ones ordered during office hours don't fall through the cracks; I placed an order on saturday night at 1am and got no response at all from them yet. Gonna make a few calls and see if I can't get things moving...

the best way to find out when they are *really* coming is work out your local depot and ring them http://www.interlink.ie for numbers.

It actually suited me to pick it up from the depot - saves a day :)
