First off, i hope this is in the right place!

I want to be able to put my mini disks onto my pc (so that i can put them on my mp3 player and i want to burn them onto cd aswell). Is there any way of doing this? I have one of the older mini-disks players (ie.....non long play!). I got a lend of a cable from my mate which he uses to put mp3's onto his recordable mini disk but it doesnt work the other way around-it connects thru the usb port on the pc and the ear phones jack on the player.

The player im using is just a standard play back unit and i connected it up to my pc and it came up saying usb mini disk connection or something along those lines but it doesnt show up in the toolbar or anything? Any ideas?

    Cheers

well if u connect the audio out ( where u put ur ear phones) to the audio in on ur pc (where u put a mic) u can do a straight recording of the music on the discs. this would mean u kinda play the minidisc and record it to a wave file on ur computer using some program. and pushing start and stop etc. it will take as long as the music. then u can convert the waves to mp3. thre is going to be a significant lose of sound quality here. and it will be slow. this is what i did to convert what i had on a tape to mp3. i cant think of another way of doing this. anyone else have a better one?

I thought the Sony software only allowed a one-way transfer of music (i.e. from PC to minidisk).

Second this. I don't believe there's any other way to transfer from MD to PC, short of finding an MD unit with a digital output and a sound card with a digital input.

Allows two way transfer, but only with tracks "checked out" from a specific PC to a specific MD unit IIRC.

There used to be a couple of MD drives for the pc knocking around years back.... Think they only came out in japan though (crazy japanese). Other than that the line out -> line in is your only hope.

Sonicsage 2.3 allows transfer of audio bothways on my MD.

I seen one on display in the Sony Centre @ Liffey Valley about 6 months ago. Chunky looking thing!

The only way to connect it is to go out of the Line out on the Mini-Disk, into the Line in on your sound card. Then use a sound recording programme, record them to Wav, then encode them to MP3. No offence but your MD sounds very bog standard...

You probably saw the Minidisc HD - they're the new 1GB data storage and music MD's.

Lump was talking about a 15cm x 15cmx 4cm MD Data that was could hold 140MB of data, came out in about 97/98.
