No I agree with you. Just does not suprise me that the scum we share the Earth with always turn up to make some cash on the back of a tragedy.

As a previous poster said. There's nothing surprising on Ebay anymore but I have to say this does make me sick alright and I think it must be the lowest I've seen.

i think ebay should be punished, and fined by uniceff or human rights .
for allowing this muppet on ebay
i am a dealer/buyer on ebay for a long time.
    and nothing surprises me now
when it started it was great , now its a free 4 all .

    i love ebay.
ok so you dont want to watch what happened in the disaster, but other people do (personally i wouldn't, but thats besides the point) if you think that makes people sick then you have a lot to learn about the world.

He's selling another copy, I'm sure all the $4 add up. Maybe I'll buy a copy with one of my fake accounts. He's also selling baptist preaching CD's!! And some 911 call from a train wreck.

 I can't believe this person selling a video on the Tsunami disaster ....

    They've some neck .... Sickening ....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 885 ✭✭✭clearz

By all your logic all the TV news channels are scum for making money because they showed the tsunami. And dont say 'Well thats news' they make a fortune because behind all we like watching stuff like this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

What about stormchasers? People who spend their time chasing tornados - natural disasters which kill thousands of people - taking footage of it, and selling it on for profit.

Are they equally as sick? While this guy's intentions are in no doubt, many people are interested in disaster footage. It's not like a execution or a fatal car crash. Natural disasters are going to happen, and they're part of the natural world, and another part of the life-death cycle for all things. I personally, am fascinated by this type of footage. I just find it awesome. Probably because I've never experienced anything like it. The fact that people died is irrelevant. It's a natural disaster, people will die, it's unavoidable. I'm not going to avert my eyes because people accidentally died.

Ditto seamus, i cant see how this lad is taking away from the terrible events in Asia. I'm more worried by the people that are "sickened" by an eBay auction of news footage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,367 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

It kinda depends on the contents of the footage tbh.

If it's just of the waves and damage done, I'd have little problems with it (though morally I think at least a portion of the proceeds should go to the red cross or something). If it's footage of people being killed, then it's more than a little bit sick...

I don't see what the big problem is. He made $4. Some people need to just chillax.

Agreed. Are they not in the business of buying and selling video footage?
Although I have no knowledge of it, I just assume that there are some people making money from selling their videos cause thats the world we live in.

Hang on a sec. From the guys own sales pitch......

"They are very graphic and most have not been shown on the television news."

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,922 ✭✭✭Dave

SKY/RTE/BBC etc etc showed from September 11th people jumping from windows. Very graphic, yet no one has started a thread about the corporate bastards.

Here's another charming item that this seller has for sale

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=307&item=4066048023&rd=1

APRIL 18, 2002 AMTRAK DERAILMENT - Crescent City, Florida

Living in Crescent City, Florida in 2002 I was one of the first people on the scene of the horrific Amtrak derailment south of town. In addition to a CD with news articles and photos of this tragedy, I also have nearly an hour of uncut police scanner audio. You will sit on the edge of your seats while listening to "live" action from Crescent City Police, Fire and Rescue units as well as responders from all over the county and surrounding counties.

    Sounds interesting actually.

You guys are missing the point, people dont expect to see the clips on the news and they are usually shown once or twice, this guy on the other hand is selling clips (which he has described as awsome) that are graphic and can be watched again and again. As far as i can see it some clone of the simpson comic book guy downloading clips off the internet with his broaband connection and selling them on trying to make a quick buck. I hope if ever gets involved in a bad accident some video tapes it and sells it on ebay as an awesome video clip.

I wonder if those who don't see anything a bit distasteful about the auction would feel the same if they personally knew someone who died in the disaster. Whilst we are all fully aware this is a natural disaster and part of nature, I think the 'isn't it sick' comments stem from the way some people will want to turn a buck to capitalise on something like this and reduce the misery of millions to a "HEY LOOK AT THIS AWESOME DEAL" headline like some cheap used car salesman.

Is this video set to the Benny Hill Music? That would be in such bad taste.

When you're ready to get out of your box, try picking up a newspaper. Actually don’t, you might be a bit shocked when you find out that people actually get killed by other people!

Not Danny Kaye singing I've Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts then?

I'm not thinking it's not in bad taste but I don't see the reason for the anger either.

Yeah some of the things people will do for money on that site are unbelievable. After the murder of Dimebag Darrell people were selling t-shirts with bullet holes in them.

That was bad, but this is just fúcking sick.

Gone are the days of free speech, when you could voice an opinion and not have to look over your head for some Oprah watchin', bored housewife, who will drag your ass to court as she has no time on her hands. Then moan about how evil you are when you actually did nothing but open your two lips, SHOCK HORROR!!!!

    Let's all be PC eh??

Maybe the tape has awesome footage of 30ft tall waves crashing thru' a forest engulfing cattle and other livestock, .. . .HORROR!!

I'm sick to the F**king teeth with PC feminist vegetarians/vegans/whatever whining over everything.

This guy(Ebay seller), is like Father Theresa compared to the Paedophiles swarming the damaged areas of Thailand in search of children, . . .MOAN about that!!!

I have to say I don't really have a problem with it myself although I don't think I would go so far as actually bidding or purchasing the video. I'm also very interested to see what the tsunami looked like especially as it would have been more spectacular in places like Sri Lanka as opposed to Phuket due to being nearer the Epicentre... It's just the natural disaster aspect of it that I'm interested in btw, not seeing people getting mangled amidst it all.

I couldnt agree more some threads on boards are embarrassingly old school Ireland. Like a group of grannys talking outside the parish chapel.
    Need I say more.
