Well, although they are entitled to that opinion, if they do harm to others (which I'm sure they will, indirectly) they should be punished accordingly.

Unfortunately, how do you prove that?

hmmm in a perverse way it might actually help anorexics get better as anorexia's key cause is lack of self confidence and finding that there are other people out there with the same problem might actually boost confidence.

Either that or it's a hoax.

The problem is, they've probably done some good, strangely enough.

I've read articles that indicate treating annorexia nervosa can lead to a competitive spirit between the patients - see who can make themselves the sickest, as it were.

This site seems to confirm this.

And contributors to such sites seem to be very open - must make for a good research avenue.

The harm they do, of course, cannot be underestimated, and I'm sure sites like this one have contributed to the ruin of lives.

That said, I'd say these sites are more of a symptom of the problem than a cause of it - there being an overlap of course.

Food is food - it isn't emotional support, happiness, or something you should cut out to prove you have control in your life.

I'd also like to point a finger at certain sections of the fashion industry, unbalanced coaches (particularly in dance and gymnastics) and to a lesser extent the one size fits all approach to beauty seen in certain media.

And how do we punish these lot?

Although this may be a symptom of the "disease", it is one that is starting to feedback on it's cause. I don't like when things do that. That's when you have to worry about an escalation, whether in number or severity.

BTW, I can see the flaws in my post, I just didn't when I wrote it! smile.gif

Ah - sorry, hope I didn't appear to be nitpicking, not my intention. I agree wholeheartedly that the phenomena is cyclical, just taking pot shots at a few other targets as long as the cannons were out.

(Mental note - use more smileys! wink.gif)

Edited to add: The other targets being gymnastics, dance, models, media etc, not JustHalf.

(I'm trying to be less of an argumentative git on the boards)

I've been anorexic before, wasn't exactly fun... Can't see why anybody would want to go through it.

    Great!
We have enough fat *****es walking the face of this planet anyway....

Annorexia and obesity are both eating disorders; I don't see how encouraging one type of disorder is supposed to balance out another.

Judging by the time you posted this, you were drunk, so I won't moan too much wink.gif
