Random freezing :( (Harddrive problem?)

My computer has taken it into its mind to start randomly freezing. I don't particularily want to re-install windows. So what can i try?

Whats that command that you can run that will replace all critical windows files with copies from the XP cd? THat might help.

Also, these readings from my HD are a bit worrying.
    160gb (primary):
    Theoretical speed: 100mbps
    Burst Speed: 64mbps
    Sustained Speed: 16mbps

    80gb (an older drive, secondary):
    Theoretical Speed: 100mbps
    Burst Speed: 66.2 mbps
    Sustained Speed: 50mbps

Why the hell is the newer 160gb worked at 30% of the speed of the older drive? Is that indicating a problem? I havn't installed any new software recently, and i have no spyware/virus's. I'm a clever user :p

And can anyone recommend a copy of memtest86 that can boot off a CD? Or a program that will burn it correctly so i can boot off the cd. I remember trying it before, and it just refused to boot off a cd, and i have no floppy drive.

EDIT: I really think its one of the harddrives, as it froze twice now when i was trying to copy data.
