DVD in an Optiplex GX240?

I took a NEC DV-5800A DVR-ROM drive out of a Dimension running XP where it works perfectly & put it into an Optiplex GX240 running Win2K. It works fine as a CD-ROM but when I try to run a DVD video it tells me there are no codecs for the DVD. Is this a problem with the Optiplex or Win2K.
I've done a considerable amount of searching, but all I could come up with was a driver for the NEC DV-5800A drive from the Dell site which is installed from floppy at boot time.

I'm pretty sure that both the Optiplex GX240 & Win2K both support DVD but I can't find the missing link.
If I buy a DVD-ROM, say an LG one, will it come with drivers for Win2K or codecs or whatever I need to install it in the GX240?

    Any help?

Will Windows Media player not suffice? It plays DVD under XP fine...

widows media player doesnt come with native dvd playing support, probably because you have to pay to have your software support dvd playing agaik.

Install windvd or Powerdvd and it will ork in windows media player.

OK thanks. Will try one of those. What about using it for data only? That shouldn't be affected by video codecs.
