Reincarnation - what if you got another go...

Many religions believe in reincarnation, some people to the degree that they believe that what you do in this life really will affect what you come back as in the next (let's not bring Glen Hoddle into this though).

Keeping in mind your own life to date, if you were killed tomorrow, what do you reckon you'd come back as?

Remember, your actions are supposed to influence your sex, location, species...

I'd like to come back as an ice-cream - then my purpose in life is to be licked until I melt.

I'll probably come back as a dung beetle. Then it will be my purpose in life to roll great mounds of s**t from place to place, as opposed to the hobby that it is now.

That would be a good thing - as you become purer you have less karma to worry about and move down (not up) the animal scale (hence Gandhi would be living as an ant somewhere if you're into that kind of thing)

Reincarnation must be the dumbest, most depressing thing ever. First we get karma on the boards which is bad enough but in real life? The cosmic system of weighing up your past actions, receiving what you deserve? Of course, it's hoowee.

Nietzsche went mad pondering his 'eternal recurrance', he said that the most authentic, individual and powerful act a man can make is to will that every thing he does must be undertaken with enough zeal and certitude that you would will to relive it eternally. That's depressing. There are things we can't will, Nietzeche went mad because he couldn't handle the pressure of choice and responsibility. It's foolhardy to say "yeah, I reckon I could make choices that I really mean and would wish to relive eternally". Balls you can.

Reincarnation is the same thing, being punished for things you, by and large, don't and can never have full knowledge of or full control over. Not that there's any proof for reincarnation and anyone who says it's uplifting is lying.

So, in answer to the original question, I'll come back as nothing. And nobody else will. All this talk is the equivalent to drinking Laudnum.
