Since they released their album with jay-z ive gone off them 100%.
you just dont mix rock with (c)rap and that's final, ok some people may contradict for sayin that seeing that mike shinoda only seems to rap anyway but it was still brilliant with hybrid theory which is an absolutely kickass album which will now be six feet under after they sold their sold to **** music.
Gone are the days when id put on tracks such as run away or place for my head because ill only think off ****ty rappers like jay-z

i personally dont like linkin park or rap i never have but i reckon they did an alright job at mixing metal with rap. ive heard some truely desperate attempts to do this but i really have to hand it to them.

For mixing vocals into metal I'd say slipknot are the kings of it, real good growl, a 'clean' voice, rap, and even 'funk' vocals off their first album, all from 1 singer too. More diffrent kinds of vocals from Coey Taylor on their first album (MKFR) it isnt even funny.

    yea im in full agreement!

Linkin Park were/are never metal band, they've always had that rap/nu-metal crossover thing going.I can't remember one of their songs having a real chuggy riff or metal feel to it. To be honest I can't even make out what Jay-Z is rapping about so it just sounds like an instrumental version, with the usual vocals thrown in. Nothing to see here......

I agree with fitzer666 to some extent, in that I felt the Collision Course album was kinda disappointing. Of all the songs on it, I only really like Numb/Encore. The rest just sound like simple remixes. I think that Reanimation was a better attempt at bringing life into old material.

I'm looking forward to their next album with new, original material though.

I always considered it a cynical attempt of getting more money out of fans without actually doing anything new besides paying a special effects company to do some flashy videos.

Yanno what, I did actually hear one good song by Jay-Z when I was in the USA over the summer. It was a rocked up remix of a song called '99 problems'. Excellent bangin' tune. Apart from that, the other stuff is (probably) bollix.
I like Linkin Parks 2 first albums though, the first more than the second. The mix stuff really well and their albums are a smorgasboard of variety. However, it appears that today in the USA the big thing is to have some stuttery spitting rapper on your album which is a shame.

its MFKR first of all. And its not Corey singing on it. its their old singer Anders. Just had to clear that up.

Ok the first bit was just a typo (mate feed kill repeat...), but I never knew they had a singer before Corey? got the full name of this fellow so I can look him up?

Hybrid Theory was a great album. although it had Mike Shinodas rapping, it didnt have the same rap/rnb vibe to it as say, collision course, which is a terrible album. im very very disappointed with it. meteora was ok, not as many good songs on it as Hybrid theory, i hope they make a better effort of the next album, cos they really need to redeem themselves after this sh*te

Try here www.mfkr1.com and if you want to google him its Anders Colsefni.

the problem with Linkin Park is that if you listen to them for too long, all the songs start to sound the same
Havent heard the new album, but hear its not great
shame, Hybrid Theory is cool and Metora was not bad

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭AngelofFire

Hybrid theory is a classic, the sound engineering and the lyrics are top quality, meteora was ok, it had its moments.

That'll be the original version of 99 Problems then? Produced by Rick Rubin.

I fk'ing love that song, really funky feel to it, good bit of slap bass about two thirds the way through it too, does a short bass solo, quite impressive actually, but maybe thats just a bassists perspective.

Linkin park should be executed for crimes against rock.

IM SCREEEEEAMING THAT MEANS IM REALLY AAAAAAAANGRY ABOUT SOMEEEETHING, IM ABOUT TO BREEEEEAK AND ETC ETCCCCCCC!!!!

I wish everyone on metal forums would stop dissing "(c)rap". I think that loads of people here would like hip hop if they gave it a chance instead of judging it on a few commercial songs. It's like hearing the Rasmus and deciding that you hate all metal. Check out alternative artists like Jurassic 5 or Big L.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,918 ✭✭✭Deadwing

I listened to rap years ago. I had doggystyle and tha chronic the same time i was listening to jeff buckley and stone roses. Some years ago now, but just cause i like metal doesnt mean i dont like rap. I like it when its done well, not when its some half ass whiteboy rapping about his mommy not giving him enough attention. To this day my 3 fav rap albums are 36 chambers by wu tang, tha chronic - dr dre and doggystyle - snoop dogg.

Sorry. I wasn't targeting you in particular. Ah the Chronic.... I love N.W.A. **** the Police has to be one of the funniest songs ever. They were so innovative. I find it hard to listen to both hip hop and metal though sometimes. I've lost my ear for hip hop somewhat.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,918 ✭✭✭Deadwing

Aye, i dont listen to it that much anymore, doesnt mean i dont like to stick on aint nothin but a g thang every now and again tho :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 317 ✭✭Geranium

Aw man...sooooo good. It just gets me every time I hear it. Almost forgot about it. I'm getting all nostalgic now.....in a land that Eminem and Nelly forgot....DMX and Cradle of Filth.....the memories...

Typical. Just typical! Any thread about Linkin Park always degenerates into something like this. Why can't you elitist music fans just accept that some people like Linkin Park's music the same way others like The Frames, Slayer or Britney Spears? I hate the way people like you look down on other bands just because you don't like their style in music.

Now now, lets not overlook the fact that they suck balls too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I think the main reason people dislike them is that it's possible for artists of such inconceivably small musical or lyrical talent to be so successful and that their sound is designed to be incredibly poppy. And that guy's whiney annoying voice of course.

Its not meant to be metal, its funk, and good funk :)
You do have to admit though, the bass solo from 2:50-2:58 is a pretty funky bass solo, even if you dont like the song, its a pretty good bass solo as far as metal bass solo's go :)

A m8 who I used to LAN with was a big slipknot fan a while ago now, and he had a copy, ripped it onto my PC, sod knows where he got it from.

aye they did, I remember seeing them in the SFX on Stephen's Day many years ago - twas great fun, and most violent - hard luck to the poor sap that spat on Ice-T - as the man pointed him out and he got a beating.

Sinkin Dart - or whatever they are called, dont have a patch on them - lousy nu-metal :(

Used to love that song 'I used to love her' by Body Count, the one that was a parody of the OJ Simpson thing. The fcukin' riffs in that song were killer.
If you're into other heavy-ass rap songs, check out 'Cuz I'm like dat' by the smokin' suckas wit logic. Mega riff in that song, very chilli peppers-esque.

not elitist my friend have just recently bought gwen stefanis solo album and can appreciate the ingenuity , the energy and the sheen , but stinky park cmon in , fairness the angst in those songs is such token angst , good singer songwriters and artists hint at things in their songs and suggest at stuff but linkin park basically blurt out I hate me parents they should sit down with brian mcfadden and write lyrics , they are mitchelstown cheese man , Remix albums c`mon and releasing every song as a single nearly , they re mad for money , money money money .do you think people will be listening to the stink in ten years time , I dont .

Also how can't anyone enjoy Anthrax and Chuck D's "Bring The Noise"? Rap and Rock/Metal can go well together IF DONE CORRECTLY.

But when ya take Wannabe's like Linkin Park and Jay-Z who would know what attitude was if it came up and bitch-slapped em, you know it's a recipe for disaster.

Careful now, Nero, you're talking about arguably the best EVER rap/metal fusion song there. Don't take it lightly. The live version from Anthrax's live DVD 'Music of Mass destruction' is probably the greatest live track I've ever heard. 7 and a half minutes of pure metal pummelage.

    Terminator-X it, lads.

Fair enough, you don't like the lyrics or the marketing behind them, but I'm just against all the slagging and looking down on fans of bands like Linkin Park. People should be able to listen to whatever music they enjoy without having people giving them lectures every time they mention it.

of course, unless what they enjoy happens to be something we don't approve of.

I'm afraid that's something that's just gonna happen reguardless, so just learn to take it on the chin and take no heed of it. In the end, it's you who'll be listening to the band in question, and it's whether or not you really enjoy the music that matters, not the opinions of people on a discussion board. That said, if you'd let said people sway you, you probably weren't that big a fan in the first place.
