The Webcam - business or pleasure... (?)

I set my home cam up so my mom could talk to my aunt in Holland, Using SNL so it wouldn't cost anything, and they'd get to see each other. (I found a program that would only let two computers connect through their IP address) (it was quit good)

On the other hand I was asked to do testing for work to find a good low cost program that would let the MD's conference from other countries........My ending recommendation was for them not to use any programs as every few minutes you get some perv flashing you frown.gif ....and I ain't talking about women.

In the end its nothing really to do with you, its up to your friend to use it the way he wants to.

Oh yeah, I know that - again this isn't me trying to interfere with my mate's surfing or pass judgement on his hardware purchases.

I was actually pretty surprised at my own reaction and I'm trying to find out more about webcam usage to help balance my views. I'd love to hear from anyone who ever used a webcam in open chat, to hear about their experiences. I know if I'm in an open chatroom I see enough posts from people like:

Singleguy Any interested ladies out there wanna PM me for webchat?

I dont think you can use then in an "open chat room"

The one I've seen that comes closest to this is a program called Ifriends. its not very good and uses way too much bandwidth. Things like IcuII and ISPQ are full of really doggy ppl. But there are some ppl on them that are just there to chat and out for a lauf. then only real way for you to know how he is using it is to be there with him......then again he's not going to get naked with you there is he?

I bl**dy hope he's not about to get nekked with me in the room!

It's not that I'm that curious about the intricate details of what he's doing with the web cam. It's odd really - I feel a bit like I'd feel if I was sitting in my mates room and spotted a porno mag poking out from under his bed and opened it for a larf only to discover it's full of bestiality pics or something.

It's this 'cringe' feeling I can't shake so I posted here originally hoping to see lots of things like:

"You're being ridiculous you big bronze age luddite!! Of course he's just chatting about football! He wants the webcam to make sure the people he's talking to are all wearing Leeds jerseys" or something else robustly reassuring like that. biggrin.gif

Not unless you're his girlfriend/boyfriend/lover (no idea what gender your even are). You'd have had to see the above movie to understand what I meant, I suppose.

?? Saw flatliners, but don't get that... maybe wasn't paying enough attention... will it ruin it if I ask you to explain? wink.gif

Brevity is the soul of wit, so I suppose it will a bit.

Remember the William Baldwin character and his hobby that involved his secretly videotaping women he... err, had carnal knowledge of? He had a collection of tapes - labeled and everything.

    All with hilarious results wink.gif

Some people do use webcams for relatively innocent purposes

Need input on this - a mate has just bought himself a web cam for home use. He has no business reasons for purchasing, he says he wanted it because it brings a greater depth to his chat room experiences because it's nice to see the person you're arguing over football with.

    I have my doubts.

He has asked me if I really believe that he's bought it so that he can get nekked and flash his bits at the world.

    I don't think that.

I think he bought it in the hope that someone else will get nekked and flash their bits at him.

Unfortunately now I'm being accused of being a bronze age luddite and people are offering to buy me a 'brand new wireless' or a 'picture box' so I can 'watch the talkies'.

So what's the verdict? Should I be embracing the web cam as the next step in communications? Or should I be embracing the web cam with my my clothes off??

(And I'm not calling anyone who owns a webcam a pervert, okay? So don't bother spamming me with abuse if you own one - I'd rather see your coherent argument here!)

    A) If he wants to see someone else's bits on his webcam, they'd be in the same room as him anyway, rendering the webcam pointless.

    B) Webcams most likely are the next step towards video phone calls et al when we all have broadband and so on.

    C) If your mate wants to buy a webcam with his own money and then either talk to people or get his kit off on it, what business is it of your exactly?

    D) If he wants to move into the next era of human communication naked as the day as he was born, that's up to him smile.gif

I'm not saying it is my business - I called round for a visit, noticed a web cam, said 'when did ya get that then?' and a conversation started from there. Hence I'm looking for input in this forum to help stretch my mind a bit about why people buy webcams (although it's already pretty broad - perhaps I'm just suspicious of him ) smile.gif

I think he meant that he would be able to trade his own nekked webcam pictures.

Hmmmm!! I see you use the term "Friend" a lot in your messages, yet when you ask your "friend" a question and he answers, you immediately think he is lying to you, so you discuss his business with someone else????
    "friend"???? I think not.
(Here is a little tip, when someone answers a question, don't call them a liar behind their back, coz they might get a little annoyed with you).

Life is just a one way ticket, every one must go around, here's a bucket go and kick it, slit your wrists without a sound.

I just use mine for childish pranks and gags smile.gif

Even though I was their captive, the Indians allowed me quite a bit of freedom. I could walk freely, make my own meals, and even hurl large rocks at their heads. It was only later that I discovered that they were not Indians at all but only dirty-clothes hampers.

Eh, hello? Am I a dating service? Why don't you buy a webcam and see if you can find him online - then you can answer both our questions!! wink.gifbiggrin.gif
