    Thanks Chalk.

For anyone else interested, Lame is a command line program, but there is a neat little front end available for Lame called RazorLame.

Thats gonna hurt the sound quality. I dunno what app I've never need to do that myself.

Yeah i know it will degrade the sound, but I only have a 128meg flash player and have all my stuff archived as 192kbps. Ive got to the stage where I want more than 2 albums on the player! lol

I think 64kbps is not as bad as i thought it would be, but its all a matter of taste.

    64kbps mp3 is TERRIBLE!

Does your portable play wma's? or any other format? Wma's at 64kbps sound about as good as mp3@128kbps. Definately look into that.

Alternatively, make your songs mono instead of stereo. 64kbps mono is same quality as 128kbps stereo, except you lose all the cool stereo effects.

iTunes will convert for you , just change the import settings in it to whatever bitrate you need

Hmm...didnt really consider that. I just like to keep to open standards, instead of getting locked into a Micro$oft one. But ill give it a go thanks.
