Can someone do a test?

    Hi,

A friend of mine, also living in Galway, has just bought a DigiTV subscription for Romanian channels. It's located on Intelsat 10-02 at 1W, spot 3. The official footprint for this spot is not very accurate (has some writing covering Ireland), and my friend doesn't know what dish size to buy.
Can anyone help with a test? Would 80cm be enough?

    Thanks,
    JP

80cm is working pretty well here in Dublin but it drops by 2dbw where you are so I think a larger dish maybe needed unless someone here has an 80cm with a .3 that they can try. Its always a good idea to allow a margin for rain fade which can drop the sig by a fair way.

Thanks for your quick answer Tony,

So, a 90cm should work well here in Galway.
    Would you recommend a 90cm or a 1m dish?
Anyway, both of them are very difficult to find in Ireland.

    Is there a huge difference between a 0.6 and a 0.3 LNB?

In this kind of sitaution I usually recommend the triax td110, its well made and i have found it to out perform some cheap 1.2m dishes. there can be a big difference between .6 and .3 but it really depends on whether the manufacturer is using typical or best figures. E.G . an lnb could be .3 at 11.7 but .8 at 12.500
The invacom is pretty good value now (it used to be well over €120) and there are other decent ones out there too which I'm sure other guys can recommend.

Im getting a good signal here on a wind battered (dish moved slightly) 1m dish in Roscommon. Averaging 50-60%

I finally got my dish and LNB and sucesfully installed them :)

For those of you interested, here are the details:

    Dish: 1m Gibertini
    LNB: 0.3 Invacom

I've purchased them from www.hm-sat.de. They arrived in 10 days.

    Satellite: Intelsat 10-02 @ 1.0 W
Package: RCS DigiTV (smardcard provided by RCS)
    Encription: NagraVision A (a.k.a. NagraVision 2)
    Signal strength: 80%
    Signal quality: 70% for transponder @ 12687.00 H,
    50% for transponder @ 12723.00 H

Why is that, I don't know, both transponders are on the same beam.

I wish to thank you all for your help,

    Regards,

How much was delivery for that from Germany?

I've noticed that of late, a lot of the UK mail order companies refuse to sell dishes to Ireland because they were arriving damaged.

24 euro with DHL. (although they said UPS on their web-site)
They were having also a cheaper option (19 euro or so).

    Cheers,
