That annoying ad in Adobe Acrobat 7

Is there any chance of a way to move/hide that annoying ad in the top-right corner of the screen in Acrobat 6/7. I don't mind the pdf ones but linking to Yahoo toolbar...argh! I have adobe blocked by my firewall but seems the images are embedded in there.

So I'm probably clutching at straws...FF's adblock has got me so used to ad-free work that I guess I'm getting greedy?!

Well - you can either get acrobat 5 or use GhostScript instead.

Good point I don't get much benefit from the newer model...I simply needed to re-install so followed the link.

I love Acrobat 7, it's much faster than previous versions :)

To remove the ad, you can just go to Edit->Preferences->Startup and uncheck the item labeled "Show messages and automatically update". :)

Brilliant thanks Stark. I dunno how I failed to notice that. I guess I need buttons like "uncheck this box if you don't want to the annoyed". :D

Oh and Acrobat 7.0 is soo much prettier than before!

That's because it loads itself at startup. Look in the startup folder.

i removed its entry from the startup folder and it still seemed nippy to open after a cold boot.

    Acrobat Reader

    Edit - Preferences

    Options
    - Display PDF in Browser = Untick, causes problems with some docs on www.ros.ie
    - check browser settings = Untick
    - Allow fast web = Untick
    - display splash screen = untick
    - certidied plugins only = Tick

    update
    - check for updates manually

    web buy
    - enable web buy - untick

Anyone got a link to the folder that has all the addin junk - IIRC you can stop all that junk loading and it runs faster.

PDFCreator is a no brainer if you want to generate PDF docs' - its free

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\plug_ins

You can rename the plug_ins folder to plug_ins_disabled, create a new folder called plug_ins and copy over any plugins that you need.
Check Help>About Adobe plugins to see what the various plugins do.

There seems to be quite a few plugins in 7.0 that need to be kept.

    Search
    Search5?
    SaveAsRTF
    Spelling

    Maybe Imageviewer too?

AFAIK moving them to another folder won't crash it at all it'll just popup saying pluging missing when you try an action.

Also - does the plugins3d folder slow startup too? Never noticed that before.
