    Hi,

Has anyone got their Wireless card working with Linux? I have a D-Link Wireless card and an Athlon 3200+ processor. I haven't been able to setup the D-Link card with Fedora Core 3. Can anyone help?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Could be one of the winWiFi cards, similar approach to hardware/driver design as happened to modems before.

    What chipset does it use?

If you can't work out the chipset, post the exact model number, including any version numbers, and we'll try to get you on the air.

A fair few chipsets now have Linux support, but to varying degrees.

I have mine working on FC3 by using ndiswrapper (see ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net and check out the distribution specific info there).

ndiswrapper effectively uses the windows drivers to run your linux wifi card. It worked straight away for me.

If you can't get it working after trying ndiswrapper, let me know here and I'll try to be more specific.

Thanks I'll give the ndiswrapper a go. I not sure what chipset I have but the card is a D-Link Airplus Xtreme G DWL-G520. It would great if someone could help further.

    thanx,
    K

You wont need to know your chipset, you just need the windows drivers. Check the ndiswrapper installation documentation out. They also have supported card information there (mine wasn't listed, but I have added it).

I haven't been able to get ndiswrapper working with the latest _FC3 kernel, though it does work with the 2.6.9-681_FC3 and the default installed kernel, it wont work with the very latest (724_FC3 I think). The nightly build nearly worked for me, but I got a kernel panic.

The long and short of the above is, if you haven't changed your kernel, you should be fine. :)

ndiswrapper is one approach - the other option (better, IMO) is to use drivers specifically developed for your card under Linux. For the G520, you need the MADWiFi drivers. Officially, these are still pre-release, but they are in wide use, and plenty of success stories can be googled.

You will need to be fairly comfortable working from your command line to get this going, but there's plenty of helpful information out there if you get stuck.
