Wow thanks man! I put on version 7 of the firmware. The results are excellent on Hotbird and Astra1 to put it mildly wink.gif

You have to set the RCU Mode in the STB Settings -> Other settings.
My box didn't have this option before the update. Nor did it have Tetris and Snake games :D

However, the remote worked quite fine after the update, and I haven't changed it yet. To understand "quite fine", the TXT button now does a ZOOM/PAN. The important buttons (CH+/-, VOL+/-, numbers, MENU/EXIT, even EPG) are still working.

One funny thing I noticed: a particular channel (don't remember which, sorry) rebooted my box. Twice. Well, I had to go back and see if it was an accident or not, and it turned out it wasn't. I will probably have to remove it using the channel editor. I was too busy sorting and renaming channels anyway.

Almost forgot: I'm currently on Hotbird. It's a paradise for french-speaking people.

Yeah like Joypad said remote is fine, only change is the TXT button which makes bugger all difference anyway. The firmware must have originally come from a box that had an RF modulator as well as scart output as there is an RF setting in the menus. Only thing I notice is that since I flashed the new firmware the STB5518 software doesn't seem to be able to download channel lists etc. I am wondering if this has something to do with the type of Standby mode the receiver goes into as the original firmware allowed you to select "Update mode" or "Low Power Mode" for Standby and I suspect update mode is the one needed for pc comms.

Bad news here guys. The Comag that I put that other firmware on has stopped working properly. The menus and everything else seems to work ok but when I plug in any of the cables from the dishes it fails to register a signal on any of them, whereas all is normal when I connect them to my other "normal" Comag. Everything was going ok over the last 2 days till now. The receiver is still outputting its usual 12V/18V on the line to the LNB as I checked this using a multimeter but the signal strength and quality is the same as if there was no dish connected. Has me baffled as to why this has happened though it did crash and reboot just before the failure. Oh well easy come, easy go. I ain't willing to risk my other receiver so I guess its bye bye to TPS et al for now.

Can you try downloading the original firmware in it? Worth a shot.

    just flash it again ,

It is possible that you downloaded it incorrectly to your computer the first time or that the transfer went wrong.

Throw the software (loaders, firmware etc)out of your computer , download it again and start off as new.

If it is possible use an old computer with win 95 or 98.
XP can be too fast especially with flashing.

Good news guys, I left the Comag unplugged all night and when I tried it again today it seemed to have come back to its senses. Everything seems to be working again and it is tuning in the stations as I speak. Bizarre is all I can say but I guess that is the nature of experimentation, sometimes results can be strange. When I left it last night it was registering a Quality but no Strength hence I couldn't tune anything in. confused.gifAnyway I'd like to give a big welcome back hug to the TPS channels. smile.gif
