I know what a choice to have right.?

Bu I need some advice I've been reading about them on the web and from what I can see the Nividia shades it in all the tests.

but my experience with Nvidia with the MX440 was less than a plesant on but any experience with the ATI's I've had have been great.....
But the GT has 16 pipeline and the x800 only 12.....

I needs me some help, please help..

I have a 6800GT and it's been SUPER, not a single bit of bother and runs everything I throw at it.

The MX440s were pretty crap cards, Nvidia and retailers marketed them as a GF4 card when even GF3s were way better. Reviews and benchmarks at the time would/should have shown that, so if you stick with what they're saying now you shouldn't go too far wrong.

    Hi,

i have the 6800 ultra on my Alien and an ATI 9700pro on my other.......i know the 6800 is new and all that, but all considered, i would prefer the Nvidia brand for overall stability imo.

I have had no probs with my 6800GT, last card i used alot before it was a
Gf 3TI200 , and it was better then the MX4 range. In all fairness to Tomshardware , he said that would be the case, it seems the MX range should be avoided, I think the are butchered a bit to make their more expensive cards look alot better

The 6800GT is better then the ATI x800pro. The x800pro is a card that should be avoided as you get a better card for almost the same price when you go for the 6800GT. The x800pro is only good if you can softmod it to the full amount of pipes, but this does not work in most cases.

Yeah the 6800GT would be the better bet. It supports vertix and pixel shader 3.0 and is slightly faster than the X800 Pro. Always better OpenGL support which is good if you use linux.

I have had 3 (2 different 9800XT's and a 9700 pro) ATI cards a 4th arrives today and I have no problems with them performance or stability wise. I also had a Creative 3D Blaster MX 460 which performed suprisingly well and has had many of my friends sing its praise when they use it as a secondary or back up card. It lacks features such as shaders etc rather than grunt. I have had several Geforce cards before that none where particularly fast but they where stable.

    Cheers all.

I currently have a 9800 Pro....just to clear things up....

From what I read the 6800GT is not so hot when it comes to AA. which I really really like using. I try to play games with more AA the better. Nvidia use Multi-sample and Super sampling which from what I can tell results in a worse picture that the AA an ATI card would bring......

AArrrgghhhhh. I know the GT is better 16 pipeline etc...pure speed it's better but the real thins is picture quality is the key. ATI seem to be better are producing better picture quality....

Even still I rekon I'm going to go the GT. Are there any X800 users that want to change my mind

The picture quailty difference between the two cards from what I can tell is non exsistant. Even with high levels of Anti Aliasing and Anistropic Filtering the 6800GT most games obtain playable frame rates. For example Doom III runs way better on the 6800GT than the X800 Pro. Half Life 2 the cards are neck and neck. Far Cry was an ATI dominated game. Generally speaking with AA and AF the 6800GT is faster. However when you get to X800XT and the 6800Ultra the roles are reversed.

The 6800 GT can be very easly overclocked to 6800 Ultra levels :)

Unless you're willing to try mod to an XTPE then the GT seems like the only logical choice as you can simply oc to ultra speeds. With regards the AA/AF and performance hit, there's not a game I don't play since I've had this card that I haven't got at least 4xAA/8xAF at a nice res -- 1280x1024 upwards with smooth framerates. Then again, my cpu is clocked at 2.7Ghz which helps a lot too..

    6800 GT = €460 off komplett

    X800XT PE =€485 off komplett.

Hmmmm. I think i would get the XTPE. Same frames in doom3 roughly as the GT and a wee bit faster in everything else and all for + €25........

If the fecking thing is ever in stock.

    Cheers all again.
Well I just bought the Leadtek TDH400 6800 GT from www.overclockers.co.uk for 410 inc shipping. Supposidle this baby has the hugh heatsink and cen be well overclock to greater than ultra speeds......
I've got me a A64 2800 that I'm running stable at 2.3ghz from 1.8 stock so I'm guessing my gaming experience will get a whole lot better.

    Yea me. :D

you would not believe my luck, the graphics card I got is knackered.....
    bad memory...here comes the RMA.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 724 ✭✭✭GinjaNinja

Right dring the RMA I saw that the x800XT droppped to 30 dearer than the 6800GT so I ask for that instead.
I should never have gone Nvidia, my fiath in them has lessened even more as a result...THe driver are what driver me wild no pun intended...there so many of them and you've no idea what ones work with your card
ATI on the other hand have always produced better drivers IMHO..
anywho thanks all for helping me get there in the end.
Lets hope I get a good card this time
