Yesterday I did a complete clean install of XP pro on my new spinpoint 160g sata HD. I ran windows update to get the latest updates and then downloaded and installed SP2. I then installed Norton Internet Security. When I rebooted a couple more updates where automatically installed. When the PC booted up again I had lost all access to the Internet. I can’t get access to windows update; activate my copy of Norton or any web site. The Internet was working as I downloaded SP2. My ISP is fine as I can ping various servers. I have installed and reinstalled Norton and Internet explored a few times all to no avail.

Anyone with any ideas as I don’t really want to format the disk and start again. Could it be a virus?

    Thanks.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Most likely your Norton Firewall is blocking traffic. Rightclick the icon and select disable (for a moment) and check if you have internet access

try chaging your dns settings, can you ping 194.125.133.11 ?

if so change your primary dns to that IP, then type into a msdos prompt, 'ipconfig/flushdns'. Now try internet again. If still not working, try another browser like Firefox
