ISDN modem...help before I destroy it and all of it's kind

Right. I'm sick to hell of this cursed little thing that's just sitting there blinking at me as if nothing's wrong, being all innocent...god I hate it...
Erhmm. Anyway, here's the story. Have an ISDN wallbox thing, also have an external ISDN USB modem. Aswell as that I have an IOL No Limits account and an IOL Gold account. And here's where everything just doesn't want to work.

Both of the above accounts only support single channel ISDN, but that's okay with me. I can connect fine to the IOL Gold account, nothing wrong with that. I'm pretty sure that number is a national number - which may be a clue...I think.

The IOL No Limits account, however, is a totally different story. I can connect to it using a 56k modem. But if I try and connect to it with the ISDN modem, it brings up an error saying "Error 651: The modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error." Every time.
I've tried everything - updating drivers, uninstalling it and the drivers and reinstalling ad nauseum and so on so forth.
Something that might be another clue, is that in the hardware manager - it comes up as a network adapter. But shouldn't it be a modem?
Also related to the last two lines is that in the connection configuration, it shows up as "ISDN channel - Trust NDIS WAN Miniport Adapter" and it doesn't seem to have a COM port, at least it doesn't say it - if that's any help.

The USB modem I have is a Trust Mini USB ISDN Modem, I have the latest drivers from their site aswell. I was on to Esat about this a while ago, and they said it was because my No Limits account was on the wrong phone line, and I'd have to get it switched over. Haven't gotten around to doing that yet, but would that be the main cause?

To make this a bit more appetising, I'll give €10 to whoever identifies the problem - and causes it to work like I want it to....

    Thanks in advance

when i was subscribing to IOL anytime i gave them my main telephone line 01 28****0 now when i connect to the net and on the net people can still ring the 01 28****0 number and get through, i didn't have to give them my second number which is 01 28****1.

    dunno if this helps you.

Firstly i'd check that you have the ISDN TA connected to the digital line on the ISDN box, rather than the analogue used for the 56k modem-that gets me sometimes

I use ISDN to connect to IOL No Limits (or Anytime as it is now  ) as well, but i don't think that i even dial from the number that they have assigned me (they split my phone line and send an ISDN line with a new number into my home office, so i think my ISDN digital line is connected on the new number). I dial in using both a 56k modem connected to the analogue line or the ISDN TA on the digital line, and it has worked fine apart from one time it gave a 'cannot dial on the modem' or similar error that i fixed by just mucking around with the drivers and re-installing etc. In saying that, windows is a right biatch regards hotplugging the TA.

My usb t/a shows up as a network adapter 'miniport adapter' as well. Are you connected to the IOL NO Limits 1893247365 number too?

In short-i don't know if it is the line number-if so it shouldn't work with a 56k on the same number. I'd check that it's connected to the Isdn line in the box. I presume that it is only dialling one line (one ISDN channel rather than two checked in the Anyime connection properties)?

    Good luck with it!

nolimits accounts are tied to the phone number. You HAVE to be using the same number/phoneline as you registered with to connect to the nolimits account via isdn. i.e. the same phoneline as you used for your 56k connection.

SO, you'll probably have to ring them and get it transferred to the line the isdn box is using (it has 2 numbers, but either should work afaik), IF you wanted to use your 56k modem on nolimits still, then you'd have to connect it to one of the analogue ports (the smaller ports) on the isdn box.

The fact that it connects fine to the other iol account means that IT IS NOT A HARDWARE PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER.

ISDN TA's are not modem's in any sense of the word, just like all vacuum cleaners are not hoovers. It has just become lingo these days that a modem connects you to the internet, even if it isn't technically true.

Thanks for the advice lads, I'll check out what you said and see if it fixes it. I'll give IOL a ring tomorrow anyway and see what they have to say.
    Thanks again.
