right, ive received software on a disc with the extension .img
i know it's not an image file, it's a program so my aim is to open it with windows installer. i've changed it to a windows installer file but when i go to open it says it cannot be opened.

is their any other way i could open this image file up successfully? searched about on the net but tbh i dont understand one word these guys say. plus they seem to have problems too. this is a guy with a similar problem it sounds: if someone could translate!! very bottom post: http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=390535

Could it be a CloneCD image file for burning to a cd. Try opening it with ISOBuster:

what kind of file size is it?
Here's a list of possible filtypes if it's correctly named. If it's not...

In linux you'd just type file filename.img and it would tell you what type it was, regardless of the extension. Probably not much help though.
