i recently bought a terratec universe 7.1 soundcard, its been driving me up the wall.
it will only seem to work for me sometimes after i move it to a new pci slot but not the same one every time so it cant be a faulty pci slot.the terratec control panel software seems to show that it is playing sounds but none come out of the speakers. the speakers are a cheap crappy pair of desktop speakers with a seperate subwoofer powered by its own plug.
i downloaded a new(beta) driver for it after trying everything else i could think of, this worked but only once and the next time i started up my pc it was back up to the same old tricks.
any suggestions would be great and might save the life of this poxy lazy bastard card which otherwise might find itself with a screwdriver through it next time i try and fix it

The fact that it works intermittently, regardless of slot, suggests that it's a faulty card. If it usually works after changing something, perhaps the fault is heat related? Take it back and ask for a replacement.

Good luck! Might be worth trying Terratec direct. Phone call/email/support forums, etc. They'll probably tell you to take it up with the retailer, but they might be nice and help you.
