    Hi,
It says on the www.oxigen.ie that you are not allowed to recycle enveloped with the plastic window. Ok, what I do is rip off the plastic and put the rest in. However, I was told that you are not allowed to put addressed envelopes in this bin (an envelope with somebodies address on it). Is this true?

Putting addressed envelopes or other papers with personal information in bins is a bad idea security wise, tear or shread them first.
I can't see any reason why the recyclers wouldn't accept them however.

I thought it was because of the gum on the envelope, altho leaving the address on them is fairly stupid.

not that anybody gives a toss anyway. if they've time to be looking into everyone's bin then they're an overpaid underworked bunch!

There have been many incidents of identity/information theift from bins in lots of countries, seperated bins make it a much more attractive proposition as well, no smelly stuff to have to root through. Just one credit card statement can generate thousands of euro profit. Also unlike stealing cards from wallets it is technically not a crime until the information is used to steal money/goods.
Unless the laws have been changed recently taking stuff out of bins left on the street is not theift.

Anyone remember a documentary on a few years ago about some mad bloke in London who used to take the contents of celebrities bins, sift through them and sell all the info he got to the tabloids. For a time alot of the juciest stories were sourced by him until the celeb security brigade wised up.
