Any good PC gamepads?

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good PC gamepad, prefferebly one with a familiar layout (eg. PS2 or Xbox button layout). I recently bought a Logitech Dual Action pad only to find that it's plagued with callibration problems and just isn't very good. A USB one is preferable.

If you have a PS2 controller, you could just buy a PS2 to USB adaptor, you will get one for about €15. Or you can buy it here for just under €10 delivered to your door:) Order in St£rling as it works out cheaper than their Euro conversion rate.

It works perfect for me, just install the software bundled with it (it says you have to install it before plugging in the usb adaptor, so you better just do what it says) then you just go to control panel and click game controllers, you will see it listed, there you can configure buttons, you have to click the analogue button on your ps2 controller to get the analogue options to appear.

Also, you can hook up TWO controllers to this device!

I got a belkin nostromo n52 speed pad, its basically a hand rest that has 16 (i think) keyboard buttons on it a thumb button and a control pad.
All the buttons are programable with the suplied software, you still use your mouse with it.
It didnt take to long to get used to. You still use your mouse in your other hand.
I got it of www.elara.ie belkin have it on their site to i assume.
Xbox controlers can be used on your pc to, there's a tread about it somewhere here or in the hw/tweaking section that might be worth a look.

cormie is right.if you have a ps2 a usb adaptor is the way to go.
Back in the day when usb adaptors didn't exist I used (and still do) a parallel to ps2 cable that does the same job.

And don't bother with the drivers - they're crap anyway - just plug in a controller to the adapter and then connect it to the USB - the PC will pick it up and use the simpler, more reliable windows drivers (well, it did on my machine)

I bought the play.com USB controller hub and attach PS2 controllers to it. Works perfectly, no probs at all. The only difficulty you may find is with early emulators wont we able to recignise your usb device/controller.

Well, most of my games are fps and so I mostly use my keyboard and mouse anyway, but I would like to have two controllers for multiplayer Pro Evo 4 and the Grand Theft Auto games etc. I have been aware of the PS2 - USB adapter on Play.com for a long time now, but I just wasn't sure whether it would be fully compatible with all games and whether the R3 and L3 buttons would be recognized. Also, since the adapter has 2 ports, but only plugs into 1 USB will the computer detect two seperate controllers (I have 2 PS2 pads) and assign them ID1 and ID2 etc?

Yes it works perfectly, it only costs a few quid anyway. Dont be a stingy git, give it a go.

lol, well after paying €30 for the Logitech pad only to find out it's rubbish has made me slightly hesitant in what I buy :o . I might give it a try, it looks a good deal. One more question though; with the logitech pad it came with 'profiler' software as in most games control config menus you can't set anything to the analogue stick's digital buttons, etc. which I felt was a bit stupid, do the PS2 pads suffer the same problem and do they need to be callibrated?
