There will always be bad people and people you don't like in any/all countries of the world - as long as these types are not in the majority, it isn't a reason to have no pride in the place you come from.

You've obviously had a bad experience recently, judging by this and your Limerick post. Blame the people who did it, not the place they come from.

Did you guys ever think of where the notion of a country came from. I mean we probably started out with families and extended families then groups of families, villages, towns and so on... But where did the notion of having some common bond with someone that you have never met and are not related to come from?

Patriotism is the belief that your country is the greatest for the sole reason you were born in it :P

It's just cultural identity. Every culture has it because every person wishes to belong to something. It always depends on circumstances and history and, strangely enough, the kind of countryside, environment and even weather.

A nation is generally described as a group of people who feel united through history, language, land and so on. It's pretty fundamental. What is interesting is the way certain nations are dismissive with adjacent nations or are tolerant and accepting. Cities are genrally first then that spreads to the more conservative areas of society.

    there ya go smile.gif
