This may be the wrong forum so mods please move if thats the case.

My parents recently got a satalite dish which i want to connect to my pc so i can watch satalite of it.
What way do i go about doing this, i can bring the wires from the satalite in to my room no problem. Do i use a tv capture card then or are there special capture cards for using satalite on a pc?
Are there cards i can use to record to? I read somewhere you can program them to record or there are online data bases??
Hope someone can shed some light on it for me.

    Jozi

You can get satellite cards, they are different to TV cards and more expensive.

In the same way radios can have 4 bands - LM MW SW FM - satellite does too. This means you can't look at a different "band" if you share the same LNB via a power pass splitter, unless the LNB is a DUAL / QUAD.

So you would either need to upgrade the LNB or get a second one.
If you get a second one then you could either point it at an adjacent satellite on the same dish or you would need a second dish.

a skystar2 satellite card will do what you need and costs only e71 incl. delivery off this german site http://www.dvbshop.tv/ where i got mine.check out dvbn.net(you have to register) for more info.would recommend you buy a DiSEqC 1.2 satellite motor if you think you would be able to put up to get most out of the card. hm-sat.de sells motors (DiSEqC H-H Motor SG2100 @e66) as well as skystar2 cards (@e65) and ships here for e20.

Make sure you have a pc with a fairly high spec as the skystar2 cards use up a lot of system resources. If this is a problem, you can spend a little more money on a skystar1 card instead. There are other cards but i have no direct knowledge of them.
Would also agree with the above - order up a diseqc motor and a cheap satfinder at the same time - and get more mileage out of the delivery charge. The motors are not expensive and worth the investment.

    Rite im just home.
Its the sat they had in lidl as i just found out, not even sure if thats a good thing.
They still have to get a lnb, so i'm going to try get a dual one in that case. They also already have a sat finder.
Not sure if dad would let me put a second dish up, i took long enough for him to enter the world of satalite.
DiSEqC 1.2 satellite motor they rotate the disc i assume, would that not meant i would be interupting some elses signal watching via the box and me on the pc?
Thanks for the help so far, much wiser now anyway
