We have just completed a kitchen/dining extension. The concrete is down about one month now and we have the heat on to dry the concrete as quickly as possible. We are anxious to get back into the house as quickly as possible as we are expecting our first child in early Feb.

We want to lay solid wood flooring/or semi solid which ever is fastest in the dining area.. We have been told numerous different stories but essentially need to know what is the best damp proof course to put down to speed up the process before we lay the ply (for solid) or foam (for semisolid.) We can wait longer if we have to let the concrete floor dry longer for the wood flooring, but the wooden/laminate kitchen has to go in in the next week or two so at least we can move back into the house, however we are concerned that the kitchen might warp without the proper damp-proofing– any suggestions?

    ....

*Heating a house is not always the best form of drying out your new build...especially when floors are concerned (heat rising and all that)...a dehumidifier should be more effective....cheap enough to higher out.

*I think your saying you want to lay the timber floor ontop of a DPM to stop the timber floor getting damp while the floor drys out....id say forget that idea....or its money down the drain

    * You could fit the kitchen on polythene but its not much of an advantage as the kitchens on plastic feet...just leave the kickers off....
