firefox is a good alternative to ie. u cant cleanly get rid of ie if ur on a windows platform so best to just use firefox all the time or set firefox up as the default browser on ur system so ie just gets ignored and sits there idle. some sites are designed specifically for ie so u may need to fire it up from time to time to view a site in its full glory but these are becoming far and few between thank god.

    my 2 cents

It seems to be hardcoded into Messenger to use IE. Unless there is a patch to get around it, there is nothing you can do other than manually go to Hotmail in your browser of choice...

There is a plugin called "View This Page in IE" that will add the option to your rightclick menu in Firefox and Mozilla
    worth a look - http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/ieview

Also "user agent switcher" can be handy http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/useragentswitcher

My question may be the same as the msn messanger one.
I too use firefox, whenever I click a 'contact us' link on a webpage it automatically attempts to open IE (i have refused IE internet connection using zonealarm). How can i change this so whatever needs doing is through firefox? My email usage is via a hotmail account.

Firefox is better for browsing but you still need IE for windows update.

    You can't delete IE
What you can do is set another browser to be the default
and in tools - options - connections - lan add in a junk proxy address on your Local subnet or 127.0.0.1 might work
won't block all the holes but might help

you still need IE for windows updates - untick the proxy box, do the updates and retick it.

Unless you use the automatic updates. It's also pretty handy to be notified when new updates are available.
