Can someone give me some basic information on these FreeSat cards i've been hearing about?

My girlfriend's father has Sky Digital, but is also paying for the other cable stations on Chorus (ITV, Channel 4 etc).

If i buy one of these FreeSat cards that offer these stations (ITV, Channel 4 etc), will i be able to put it into the Sky Digibox along with the other card?

Also, am i right in saying you pay a one-off fee of £20 for the card? Also, can i have a secure link on where to buy one?

    Cheers!

You Just Take Out The Irish Card Put In The English Card And It Changes Your Box Over.

Dave, I don't think it will work.

I bought some before christmas from a comapny on the net . My orders arrived a few days later and seem to have been posted from Dublin. Some others here bought them from the same place and all said the same. They come activated so once you insert in the box the epg changes to the UK epg and vollia ! (or something like that) anyway they seem to work fine.

Any chance of getting the link off you?

Seems like they've mixed reactions / theories about this one. There's a site i found on the Net that say you need to provide an English address to get one off them.. but they provide one for you. So they charge you £25 a year for two years for the rent of the address. Altogether, just the FreeSat card will cost you £70 (approx. €100 for 3 stations.. seems a bit steep!)

Anyone had any successes with these FreeSat cards on a Sky Digibox, and can provide a link to buy a FreeSat card for less than £70?

That's the place we bought them . I don't mind paying a bit extra knowing they will honour their guarantee of 2 years. You can buy on ebay at half the price but I don't fancy looking to get another card in 6 months. If Sky do some day decide to marry these cards to each box I would think it's better to be with a company that will stand over their sales.

If you can blag the use of a UK address you can buy the cards direct from Sky at £20 each. Mine arrived in about ten days unactivated - I had to call Sky again to activate them but it was no hassle. Paid for them on an Irish credit card and that was no hassle either. Friend just posted them on when they arrived and they're working great.

When you call, you need to give the full UK address and postcode, your name, the phone number (you might be able to get away without this), and of course your cc number & expiry date.

I think the number to call if you want to go this way is 0044 870 606 1111. You'll probably want to put 141 in front to hide your Irish number when you ring.

    Cheers for that rockbeer.

Seems like a lot of hassle but i know one or two people in England that would have no problem with using their address so i'll consider it.

    Thanks again all!

I received my freesat card and called up them up to activate it using hiding my id. The problem is that the channels itv,ch4 & five are accessible through the other channels options but i cannot get them in the epg. What is the problem. I tried it on two other boxes and the same problem.

    Thanks

How long have you had the card s gr? I had to wait 24 hours or so before everything settled down in the EPG.

    Hi,

I just got my new ftv card via a friend in London. When I put it in the box ITV 1, 2, Channels 4 or 5 didn't appear on the EPG. I left it in for a few hours but still nothing happened.

Should I phone Sky to get it activated or leave the card in for a longer period?
If I do need to phone Sky, do they just need the card number or will they look for the details of my decoder or anything like that?

    Thanks

    Joe

There is NO HASSLE. A couple of phonecalls and a credit card. It costs less than €30. It's (reasonably) legit. It works! I could not recommend the freesat card enough.
