I watch the news (both sky news and arab news) and I watch the violence in the middle east and i think it is a complete waste of human life.

first off ...

I think the war in Palestine is a military war and it should be army only and it is a sad day for humanity when a 8 month old girl is killed or when 2 school mates are stoned to death they are all civilians and should be let live they are not soldiers.

Secondly ...

I think the whole "peace making" process in the region is a farce. All sides are corrupt.

just look at America it gives billions to each side for Developement aid(guns, tanks and boats) , so it hardly wants peace in the region.

Israel is Americas best friend and will do its best to keep that status.

palestine is a un-organized mass of refugees and its aging "leader" is a multi millionaire tycoon, Did you know he owns more than 60% of fyffes south american banana company?.

then of course we have the unorganized mass of faction groups who are winning no international support by carrying out acts on civilians.

and while these countries fight, the others looking on with extreme cowardice and will not take action.

and while these countries fight, there people starve and die of simple diseases.

and while america sells them arms it wants them to lay them down. what a contradiction. such a disaster for humanity.

what the region needs is a firm movement for reunification of the old arab/ottoman empire where people used to live side by side Jews/christans/muslims.

F*ck the americans.
F*ck the russians.
F*ck the british.
F*ck us all for not seeing through this breach of human rights.

this happens in every corner of the world zeemoud when you have corrupt governments, large multinationals investing in the country or America poking its nose inside trying to help the situation when they cant even control their own country (very very sad state of affairs). frown.gif

The Merkava MBT is Isreali designed and produced and is considered one of the best in the world (ranked with M1A1, Leopard2, T90). Isreal is one of the few nations to have significant armoured warfare experience in recent decades and it certainly shows in the design of the merkava. Rear doors allow ammunition to be quickly loaded into the tank. A 60mm mortar is used for AP defence.
The current standard issue rifle is the Galil, a design based on the AK-47, is well suited to the enviroment but due to its weight it is being replaced by the american M4A1 carbine.
A recent study by the american centre for lessons learned indicated the usefullness of
high ROF AA weapons in urban combat zones, something the Isrealis seemed to have discovered/used in Beirut.

Recently a friend who was n ThaiLand told me of a news broad cast he say over there. An Amercican Jewish journalist defended a palistinian farmer who had been told he could not collect rain water for his crops. The reson was Jewish settlement on both sides of him wanted the land to expand. He tied himself tot eh farmers rain collector when the army came to tear it down and had to be arrested.

Previously to this I had assumed the only Yanks in Isreal were settlers with New York accents talking about "their land", which takes a nerve. Perhaps more American Jews like that reporter will one day make a difference and allow the US to stop backing religious xenophobic nuts.

Most of the Irish troops killed in South Lebanon were killed by the SLA.They were indeed the nastiest of enemies, carrying out massacres of women and children on many occasions in true Christian style. Many of them were extreme right wing aswell,in the nazi sense! Early on in Israels occupation these Christian militias enforcing Israeli rule in the area could be seen with swastikas on their uniforms!I'm not sure if irony exists in that part of the world.

Many of the SLA fled to Israel's border and begged to be let in, and with good reason, would you like to face the Hizbollah gunman whos brother you had imprisoned without trial and tortured to death in the infamous Khiam prison? I think not smile.gif. The surprising thing was that some SLA men surrendered to Hizbollah and other groups and were treated far better than could have been expected(or in some cases deserved IMO) and were handed over to Lebanese army troops, this followed directions from many Muslim clerics in Lebanon that the country and its people 'had suffered enough', and endured enough civil war already.Anyone interested in Lebanon in particular should read 'Pity the Nation' by Robert Fisk, its a superb book.

Original article on the withdrawal and the collapse of the SLA:

Another story on the infamous Khiam torture jail:

Telling extract......
Then there were the electric leads for the little dynamo - the machine mercifully taken off to Israel by the interrogators - which had the inmates shrieking with pain when the electrodes touched their fingers or penises. And there were the handcuffs which an ex-prisoner handed to me yesterday afternoon.
Engraved into the steel were the words: "The Peerless Handcuff Co. Springfield, Mass. Made in USA." And I wondered, in Israel's most shameful prison, if the executives over in Springfield knew what they were doing when they sold these manacles.

In the end, America is the problem. The sell weapons to countries and then tell them not to use them. They destroy any country that opposes them that doesn't have Nukesand all they care about is there ****ing money, those Capitalist *******s are gonna pay for this someday. The Communists will get there deserved revenge and we will be free of all the Monopolys and injustices that come with America. (that goes for all the NATO countries too) tongue.gif

The US gives billions to Israel in war materials, not the Palestinians. It is Israel who holds all the big weaponry, their nice shiny Mercavka tanks are US made,as are their Apache helicopter gunships which they use to carry out political assasinations. This is opposed by guerrilla warfare, AK 47/RPG being the mainstay of the Palestinian groups. The only armor in arab hands seeing active combat would probably be that captured by Hizbollah following Israel's frantic pull out of South Lebanon.
and while these countries fight, the others looking on with extreme cowardice and will not take action.

Some try, but political strings are pulled, and action is deferred.Take the UN motion to send in an observer force to Palestinian areas,it got huge support, but was vetoed by the US.It not wanting the activities of its Israeli allies getting into too many homes.
and while these countries fight, there people starve and die of simple diseases.

I don't think you'll find many Israelis starving or dying of simple diseases.Any malnutrition or illness among ordinary people will be found in palestinians, though it is certainly not such a major factor as in other countries,Iraq most notably. While the Palestinians have to suffer warfare and having their homes bulldozed, Iraqis(particularly children) are dying from diseases modern science laughs at.

Its not easy sometimes. If you're going to watch CNN or even the BBC or SKY then you may well not get the real story. You'd be surprised what the press suppresses. Sometimes they just won't run a story
other times they choose their words in such a way that misrepresents the truth.

Bugler is right in the sense that Israel has an immense military might.
Merkava tanks are probably one of the best in the world. There home grown Kfir is a direct sticth of the Mirage series, first rate M-16's, helicopter gunships, the lot.

Palestinians utilise patriotism with suicide squads.
Snipers are also a major player in their desperate struggle.

As for peacekeeping, Ireland's 650 strong UN force there is among the most highly trained in the world for such a scenario.

The Americans are well able to send over buckets of money for arms but you won't find many American troops over there on peacekeeping missions.
They learnt their lesson in '82.

It's all very well to criticise the Israelis for being heavy handed and bulldozing refugee camps out of it, but they've been attacked by basically all surrounding neighbours on numerous occaisions. And incase it isn't clear; they've won every time.

One thing I do remember though is reading about Israeli anti-aircraft minigun-totting M113 apc's blasting appartment blocks out of it in Beirut during the 80's.

On a slightly different note; the SLA were complete savages, equiped and trained by the IDF and once the IDF pulled out of southern Lebanon, so did they. Pussies ?

Nil Desperandum
