British Competitions

There are two competitions coming up in uk that we might be able to go to.

British Uni Indoor Championships - 26th Feb

British Uni Team Championships - 5th March

With the Feb competition we would be guests and could send ~6 people, who'd shoot a Portsmouth round, and we'd be listed in the Home Nations Results, but no prizes.

With the Team competition in March, Ewan is talking to the organisers, and it appears that we can send a competitive irish uni team of 3 people, that would compete again the various uk universities. Competition will consist of a qualification round of 30 arrows on 40cm target at 18m. Then elmination rounds for top 16 universities.

We still need to confirm that:
    (a) the team could contain people from different colleges, although we can always say that they are mearly different parts of the National University of Ireland (NUI)
    (b) and also confirm that we would take part in the whole competition, including elminations and that we can win something if we do good enough.

But whos interested, able and available to go? Cost would probably end up around €200 for weekend, from leaving your house friday to getting back to it sunday. Travel would be either by ferry and train or possibly by plane.

Looked up a few things, unis can send two teams, usually an A team with best 3 archers and a B team. Also its top 32 teams that start the elmination.

Also looked at past results to get idea of levels of shooting. Team championships is only two years old, shot in 2003 and 2004.

Both years, in individual scores during qualifcation, on 30 arrows at 18m on 40cm target. A 260 would get you in the top 10, and top 3/4 are 270+. Out of a field of about 70 archers.

On team totals, in 2003, only 5 of 28 team had 750+, which would be 3 scores of 250, and top score was 804. In 2004, only 4 of 19 teams had 750+ and top score was 789.

Provided we can send a team representing all colleges combined we could have a very competitive team. A top 3 finish would be possible. Depending on who is able to go.

Also looked at NUI website, NUI is acutually one university containing Maynooth, NUI Galway, Cork and UCD. Still its probably best if we keep them separte for intervarsity purposes :D

The team champs eliminations would also be shot on the new Beiter Hit/Miss targets, which are kind cool, and a bit more exciting then yer usual fita 10-ring tomfoolery.

I had completely forgotten about it to be honest. :p Thanks for the link. I've seen them before (picture only). Never realyl paid any attention to them. Looks like a tough enough target (for me) but I'll look at them properly sometime when I can procrastinate and not risk failing an exam!
