maybe because they have 10 lines in and only one person to answer them and he only works 10-2 monday to friday?

Maybe cos they can't figure out which end you listen to and which end you talk into...

call me crazy but would you bother ringing pcworld for prices when you know the internet is going to be cheaper?

even buying from a UK site with sterling and delivery?

Well, sometimes PC World do have some remotely decent offers, usually on printers and hard drives, which can be handy if it's roughly the same price as internet stores (usually it's more expensive than online retailers), but you have the added benefit of being able to walk into the store, pick out exactly what you want after viewing it and be able to send it back if it's defective without going through the hassle of RMAs (which can get very, very complicated/frustrating with online retailers that aren't based in Ireland - and even some that are).
So, basically it's usually more expensive, but sometimes, you can get lucky and find a bargain, all other factors considered.

i have rang them twice was a good while ago now and they answered after a good few rings

the phone system in there stores is a joke! i used to work for currys, who are the same company (Dixons Stores Group). they have the phones setup to ring at only one phone in the shop at a time, then if it's not picked up after x amount of rings it gets bounced around random phones in the shop to see if anyone will pick up! but of course since everyone is too busy trying to earn commission and know that most incoming calls are problems/returns they don't bother!

    Damn i hated that place!

I called them looking for a product last week, needed it in a hurry, so after the phone rang out twice a lady answered and I asked if she had the item I wanted, she went off for about 2 minutes and told me they didn't have it. That was wednesday I was in Liffey Valley on thursday night looking at TV's in Curry's and I decided to call into PC World and they had about 5 of the item I was looking for the day before!!!

Understaffed ... they are too cheap to employ enough people to deal with customers and still have time to answer the phones.

But hey, they are making a killing anyway, so why change it.

Are they ever standing there doing nothing though? No, they're busy. There isn't enough man-power the stores.

Anyone been to pc world in Carrigaline ? It's literally the worst shop I've ever been too.

All the staff that I've ever dealt with are so inept that it really beggars belief. They're all Asian guys, Indian/Pakistani/Whatever, they all have bad english, they cant work the tills properly and their knowledge of computing is absolutely laughable.

Me and my mate called up to ask what selection of power supplies they had and the guy actually had no idea, Im not sure that he even know that they had any. Later that day we go in to pick one up (replacement for a DOA hiper), we pick out a 400W jeantech one cos it was cheap and wont have to last long. Get to the counter and the guy asks us is that a processor! I would have thought that the 5kg box witha big picture of a PSU would have been a dead giveaway but nope...

Last time I was in their had another lad at the tills who couldnt work their discount system, took about 4 goes to get the stuff i was buying through. And he stank of B.O.

    Worst shop ever.

The people who work there, are there to sell PC/Laptops.

PSU sales in your average PC World would be no more then €250/300 a week. PC's and Laptops would be about €300,000 a week. So, chances are, they didnt want to leave the PC/Laptops to check. Or didnt know what they were. To sell a pc/laptop you just have to know that 3.2ghz is faster then 3.0ghz, cos thats all people ask about.

Too true. In that light look at it this way, if you were a customer in the shop, would you rather an employee behind the desk answered the phone and spent 10+ minutes sorting out the person on the other end of the line, or yourself?
In retail, the customer in front of you should always come first, then the phones.

Is it a good system that way? Yeah. Should PC World employ someone dedicated to a phone with a switchboard... yupp, will they? No, cheap bastards.

    Stop supporting these wasters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,452 ✭✭✭thehomeofDob

You can't blame the staff for a company being crap. If PC World were a halfway decent company they'd hire a person to stay on the phone the whole day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,142 ✭✭✭TempestSabre

Ironically, stuck for printer paper today so had to call in. After 5 mins and no sign of anyone that would allow me to pay I walked out without it. Bought in Easons instead. Better weight 90 vs 80 and €4 cheaper for the same amount. Easons is exactly cheap either.

In Liffey Valley, I was being served at the till one day when the phone rang there and the girl answered it, then proceeded to deal with a customer, I left without purchasing after two minutes, I informed the manager next time I went in (not to buy, I won't be buying there again!!)

Can't blame the staff, they don't get half enough training, there are far too few of them and they are forced to push useless product insurance policies on as many poor suckers as possible (funnily enough they seem to be very well trained in that aspect of the job!!).

Vote with your feet and your wallets my friends!!

Its not just the lack of staff, it can be the ignorance of some. was in there last year, had to get a quick laptop replacement, found one suited my needs, was told its out of stock, went wandering but he said it will b in on the friday and this was the tuesday i was in, i said fair enough he will let me know and can get it sorted. long story short i rang on friday and the lazy **** didnt tell me that a shipment of them came in on wednesday and was sold out again. Customer service i think is useless. Just went to harvey normans instead, alot better service.

Yes, agreed, the staff can be very ignorant, not all of them but a lot of them. However, I know someone who worked in PC world in Blanch for a year and she said she would never work for them again, she hated going into the place every day so I guess I can forgive them a bit...maybe

They're all too busy wandering around like zombies asking people if they're ok. If someone asks them what that ringing noise is, they look at the spec sheet on the nearest pc and try to bluff it.
