pop warrior within doesnt work with my usb pad

i recently got pop for the pc loved the game but couldnt get it to work with my usb pad which i got for the game. Its a quality game buy extremely crap on the keyboard and mouse. I know its a long shot but does any1 know any way i could get my pad to work with it? It works for other games like pro evo 4 and thug 2 etc
