    Why? It's hardly spam.
Its a valid question and given the recent traffic changes made by the corpo one that is becoming more and more realistic.

Don't ban buses and taxi's, but banning everything else would be great.

    Non.

I think they should be banned, maybe when the luas is up and running (or should that be if?) it would be easier to implement. I walk to/from work and the vast majority of cars I pass only have a driver, no passengers. Mind you, I walk to work to avoid that illness breeding ground known as the public transport system. Cool cycle ways everywhere would be great, and good for everybodys health too!

the public ransport system in its current state would keel over & die if we attempted to put the entire population of the city on it

I do agree in principle. But what about all the people who moved into the city centre at the behest of "Urban Renewal"? They would be prity miffed. Not to mention those who live in quite areas now just outseide the city centre would be swamped (more miffed peps). PLUS public transport is a mess so it would not work (everyone miffed).

    Nice sentiment though.

the dublin corporation said they're going to introduce a bike scheme by 2002 (probably).

its a good idea - park and rides in satalite areas of dublin, leading to those areas seign more of the commercial action that town currently gets. It'd have to be planned really well though - not just a blanket ban with no solutions provided.

And install cool cycle ways everywhere.
Roll on a Copenhagen-esque Dublin if you ask me.

Ya - leave the commercials / busses / taxis / hackneys alone, but ban the rest smile.gif

If it was done for a month, I wonder what the result would be? A month would give people enough time to get used to it and see how they feel about it.

More cycle-ways are also a good idea.

    All the best!

yah in theory it is a fairly sound idea. Except for the fact that the transport system in the city is atrocious atm. Now granted its not as bad as it used to be but its still not up to scratch to be able to support the sudden load demanded by people needing to get around with saturday shopping.

An Amsterdam style system, where there would be trams going around the traffic free zone would be cool and probably fairly effective. I have strenuous reservations about how effective LUAS will be...

    I suppose time will tell...
