Donations in pubs tonight.

Just heard this on the news and it struck me as very naive.

Some aid agencies are appealling for publicans and nightclub owners to take donations tonight to aid the victims of the tsunami and flooding in asia.

I think this is a terrible idea.
Call me cynical, but this is wide open to abuse.
We can't trust publicans not to rip us off on a day to day basis, nevermind on a night like tonight.

I'd suggest people not give money to open buckets in pubs tonight, but rather donate through some more official method.

No offence to anyone who would genuinely take donations and see that they get to the appropriate agencies.

I dunno, donations would HAVE to be going to the place they're supposed to be so I'd trust the publicans to be actually sending it off.

But pubs are definitly an awful place for donations cos you're paying FAR too much for a pint anyway, you're less likely to actually donate

That's my point, i don't trust them to do that.

I worked in a pub and seen enough money being taken in on any particular night to say that if a publican was taking donations, they are more than likely to actually be sending it to the charity.

They wouldn't get away with not sending the money where it's supposed to go.

But yeh I get your point. If you're gonna donate, donate through a bank or somewhere you can make sure your donation is going where you want it to

Most people would know the local well so it may not be a bad idea.
