    check out

    www.vartec.ie

request the 13636 service only. That way you decide what calls to route to them.

Its pay as you go. No min fee, you stay with your service provider.
Their rates are the same 24/7

    Your bills will be tiny.

Telestunt & Budget are much cheaper than Vartec for most calls.

I have been having some problems with calling the States with Telestunt lately .. Budget Telecoms access number seems to be more reliable although a little more expensive.

Excellent, i will let my folks know about Telestunt & Budget as they keep using the Eircom charges when they phone the UK.

From the UK, I use 1899 which is 0.5 pence per minute to Ireland

I have used Telestunt (and stil use sometimes when I am on the move). It is very good value. However, I have started using skype (www.skype.com) for calls to anywhere in Europe or North America for 2 cent/minute. You need broadband for it. Main points of interest are:
    - Call free to another PC user anywhere in the world
    - Excellent voice quality
    - You can set conference calls with up to 4 people, mixing up PC based and phone lines.

In my last conference call I had one person in the US on a phone line (2 cent/min), one person in Brazil on a PC client (free), one person in Ireland on a PC (free) and another on the phone. We talked for almost 1/2 hour and it cost me just over €1

I use UTV talk and get free calls to landlines in Ireland and UK every night and all weekend. Also coupled with a calling card really cheap international calls as you don't have to pay the local charge bit.

I see that Telestunt's website has changed some of the charges and numbers. I hope this is a mistake, or I'll have to find a new method of calling abroad.

    Would recommend Skype aswell...
pre-paid credit, been calling Australia & UK for the last few weeks regularly and have only spent about 3euro for hours of talktime, needs Broadband but, hey who can live without that anyway :D

I've been using Skype aswell since a friend put me onto it, Even went and got 1 a doze cool headphone&mic combo things (for de gaming of course). great craic. But I did notice that the connection quality does tend to go up and down with landlines anyway. Ah well for such cheap calls its worth it.

You need a PC for Skype, though. For Telestunt you just need a phone.
