Mirc... who uses it?

On and off I have used Mirc for IRC but I haven't used it in years... I tend to use forums and Usenet. But I like to hear who does use? I tried it recently awhile back and found it hard to find some good rooms/channels to chat in? I generally like to talk about Emulation or general computer stuff... but at lot of them seem to be very quiet or empty. :) Some of them are treated as a fancy downloading tool. :)

Basically wondering what Boarders think of them in general? Or even recommend a chat room to try.... I'm always on the lookout for some new craic :D

i presume you've tried #boards.ie and #emulation.ie? (both on quakenet)
emulation.ie seems to be fairly empty these days though :(

Well... it certainly still seems randomly chaotic at best :) Here's transcript I had in Jan '96 on IOL. Gawd! It was sooo slow then. IOL only got up to speed after 2am!

Spud> Optic listens but says little
    <Bodhran> A lurker, eh?
    > Optic sees all?
    <Bodhran> badum, splash!
    > some sort of pervert from cork
<sasol> no, an optic is used to see, or pour shorts!!!
    ACTION Screamer hit optic
    <Spud> Maybe Optic is shy?
    <Bodhran> Maybe optic is absent.
    <sasol> Who's the pervert?
    <Bodhran> or blind.
    <Ropey> Maybe optic has sense?
    <Bodhran> Wouldn't that be ironic?
<Spud> Maybe Optic gone to get another drink
<Vinnie> Maybe optic has fallen asleep
    > Centre the optic nerve now?
    <Spud> HELLO OPTIC
    <sasol> louise are you there
    > OPTIC!!!
    > SCREAMER TO OPTIC>>>>>
<sasol> She's playing hard to get!!!!!
    > Hello? Modems are up past 14.4K at least?
    <Vinnie> What do you mean?
    <sasol> Mines 28,8!!!!!
<Spud> Or he - you never know in tis room - all is not as it seems
    > So's mine sasol but the lines bad!
    <sasol> our's fine!!!!!!!!!!!1
<Vinnie> Mines a 28.2 what ever that means!!!
    > What brand ,Vinnie?
    <Spud> Marlboro probably
    <Vinnie> Us Robotics Sportster
    > Mines a USR 28.8K
<Ropey> any you guys on indigo?
    > How did you find Netscape today?
    <Spud> I'm on a generic 14,4 - does that make me inferior

Now it would be nice if #emulation.ie were any better. I might give #broads.ie a go and see....

Well, Chatzilla can run in a tab now in firefox so I'm gonna stick with it. I never had any need for fancy scripts or anything in mIRC so it's all I want.

Or is the Yahoo Chat groups a good alternative? Plenty to choose from there... again a lot of them are quiet.

MIrc was good back in the day when I could use it in work. Daytimes are always the best. It's mostly quiet, but sometimes a good conversation gets going. Added that all the kids are in school, it's mostly muppet free.

I gave up using IRC about a year ago because of the high idiot levels.

I guess there is a lot of that. Personally I find usenet very good for questions and of course Forums such as boards.ie. Usenet is particularly good because of sheer diversity of topics available.
