    Hi all,

I'm still building a new kit out for myself - I'm self employed so I gets to pick the best stuff, cos I approve the purchase ;-)

It time to get a new monitor, my 6 year old 21" Dell is well past its due date, it burning the eyes out of me.

    I'm thinking of getting this: Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW, 1680 x 1050 16ms / 800:1 is a 20" widescreen & costs €918.39.

It's getting absolutley amazing reviews here-
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=246836 - my top priority is a GOOD image quality - I'm a designer so colours & onscreen image quality is of top importance - I play the odd game.

My question to you guys is whether you would get it over 2 of these

    Dell Ultrasharp 1905FP 19", 1280 x 1024, 20ms / 250cd/m2 / 800:1 €1110 (for 2)

    Has anyone experiance with either?

Also that link to the American site is AWASH with talk of Dell discount Coupon s etc. can they be got for the Irish Dell site?

    Cheers.

most people will say that lcd's do not produce absolutely real colors and no real black - I'm not into those things and love my 1,5y old 1800fp so can't comment on that. But you being a graphics person should look into this.
supposedly the samsung 213T has great colours, is widescreen (which is great for working on them) and almost same rez as the 2005fpw

have a read in the long [H] thread about the 2005fpw here - early units seem to have a problem with slight backlight distribution, should be fixed with the models produced in december. not sure what batch dell.ie is selling but probably the new one.

    1x 2005fpw compared to 2x4/3's 19"
2 19" provide more real estate (both on desk :) , on screen and rez-wise) - thing to keep in mind is that you'd want dvi driving them, not dvi+analog. Sadly only few graphics card are dual dvi so you'd need to take a dual graphics card route to achieve this.
I'd probably stick to 2 19" since it's more screen real estate, but it all comes down to personal prefference.
since you can offset a part of the cost due to being self employed - have you though about the 23" sony and similar screens? 1920x1200 and more space if'd like a single screen

I know I'm going for a 2005fpw or something of similar rez and size (20-23") in second half of 2005, once hell/dell lowers the inflated price in europe a bit.

    hey

I was in the same boat recently and I had a look at alot of the forums over that very monitor 20" widescreen in the end I choose a different dell monitor
the Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP 20" which is absolutly amazing :)

their is a great TFT guide here
    http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?threadid=17209584

    for general information

That 2005 though was my 2nd choice its another great Tftand I would have chosen it if my primary use wasnt for games.

    Buy it :)

    Check out HardForum.com (Displays)

Lots of people there having problems with the 2005FPW. Lines stuck on the screen, dead pixels, and a pretty annoying problem with light leakage in the corners of the screen.

Whats VERY dissapointing is the way that DELL is RIPPING off Irish people!

    Dell.ie = € 918.39 incl. VAT, shipping
Dell.com (US) = €529.26 + they get money off offers!
    Dell.co.uk = €870.17 incl. VAT, shipping.

Michael Dell is a Limerick man! & they are probably shipped from Bray.

    Bad taste in mouth, spit.

Yeah its getting good reviews but just can make up my mind.

Has anyone used one of these? Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP 20" performance are they good? etc.

Is the difference in contrast 800:1 vs 400:1 a big issue? - thats the question bugging me.

i was in pc world the other day and the stuff they display on their tft screens is criminal, low quality videos on the screen which look absolutley awful, making the screens out to be terrible quality. Did better with the mac screens tho, they are nice pieces of hardware

Personally I find two monitors more productive then one big one. We have some of those 19" TFT's at work. I haven't used them personally though. I have a 17" and a 15".

Got the monitor last night set it up today, its class !!! :)

quite impressed with it really, first of all its massive I mean the screen size is huge ! quite alot bigger than I had thought it would be, while the actual area it takes up is minimal it also can move both up and down on its stand and the whole screen itself can be rotated 90 degrees on its side.

I havent preformed any actual monitor testing software on it or anything not really sure if you can do that, but if you want to test anything specific I will, or indeed if you would any other information let me know.

Overall Im very happy with it :) it really is MASSIVE and the 16ms response time should be perfect for any games or what ever I throw at it.

    its sweeeeeeeeeet :D

    Cheers static me,

You got the "Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP 20" right?

Are you in the Design game?

Did you buy from Dell, was it the website quoted price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Static M.e.

Not in the design game, in comp/networking game.

yes I got the Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP 20"

Got it through Dell , though not directly, through a business friend.

If you know someone who works for dell, or who does alot of business with Dell it is possible to get it a discounted price.

I agree with Static, 2001FP is a class monitor. It is made by Benq, same model as Benq FP2091 . I bought one from Dell when they had their discounts few weeks ago, Price is €784 now, including vat and delivery. Check the Dell site everyday, every hour, their prices changes often.
My advice, call their sales and you might get more discount ;)

Monitor is great for games and general usage, it has composite and svhs where you can plug in a dvd or video player and watch while surfing the web. PIP is great. I even plugged in my sattelite receiver but because it zoomes I wasn't happy with the quality. Get it if the price is right, you won't regret it :D
