Does anyone know a successful way of stopping boots starting bad ladders when the top of the zip scratches them? You can't exactly wear longer-socks that cover over the top?!

    Thank u.

Maybe thicker wintery tights would be more resistant than skinny ones.

Or you might get away with wearing longer socks if they were the same colour as the tights.

I know its too late for this pair of yours but annoying zips are something to consider when buying boots.

insulation tape or a water proof plaster is the answer.

most likey it is the metal clamps where the zip locks at the end of the boot that is the issue, zip up the boot keeping your finger inbetween the end of the zip adn the nylons and then pace the tape/plaster sticky side towards the zip smooth side to the nylons/tights /stockings stops snagging and laddering,
just remember to remove it when taking off the boots.

black tape or dark blue plasters are best also help with wearing boots no matter how high next to bare skin.

The worst way of laddering tights is slipping and going flying under a chair. Count yourselves lucky, they may be laddered, but you didnt get hurt.

I bought a packet of 3 tights from Penneys recently and all three laddered in the same place when I was putting them on. Couldn't believe it, never had such freakish bad luck. In the end, I went out bare-legged

I'm not being smart but if you bought a more expensive pair would they ladder less?

No, but it's even more annoying when they do.

    Ouch. Glad I'm not a girl (or a tight-wearing male) - That's gotta suck.
If they're so unreliable how does the majority of the female population bear them...have 15 spares in a drawer?!

Or is that what you fill those handbags with?

    Hence trousers. :)

No, cos it just depends on the denier. you can buy them in M+S or Penneys... same thing they'll still ladder if they'e very fine.

    denier - huh?

    Spot the boy. :D

It's how thick they are. Like as in can you see through them type thing. Know what I mean?

"A unit of fineness for rayon, nylon, and silk fibers" -dictionary.com!:p

So basically if you buy what I'd see as horrible big wooly ones your safe but the nicer you get the dodgier they are...regardless of price. What a dilemma!

Oh, it ain't all that bad. I usually get fairly opaque but thin coloured ones and it's very rare for them to tear.

ok, fill me in girls.. what laddering, prolly know what it is, just never heard the expression Thanks! :)

When tights are torn, the tear spreads and it looks a bit like a ladder.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭Bri

Fair enough. I see you know what your doing! Still I'd imagine the sexier versions are the most likely to mess up - probably just when you don't want them to either...
Never knew girls put so much effort in things we guys take for granted!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,095 ✭✭✭Chick

    Yeah exactly!!
You try to wear the nice fine skin colour ones and it just backfires on you :D

And ever hear the line "Is that a lader in your tights or a stairway to heaven?".... say that to me and you'll have a drink over you  ;) well actually maybe I wouldnt waste a drink!

So much easier in the summer wen u can just go out bare legged!

Yes but if you want to wear something like stockings/hold-ups they are really prone to tearing.

well the ones i mentioned earlier are not think tights they are tan ones.... and really light you can see the cute things you want to be seen(beauty spot & tattoo)

Personally, I think they're horrible. I thought people didn't wear skin-coloured tights much anymore anyway.

i dont like to wear tights at all... but during the winter its just a bit too nippy not to and since i want to show my legs rather than some random patern i chose something as nautral as possible
