Rooney and Ben Haim get charged

    From skysports

The Football Association have charged Wayne Rooney and Tal Ben Haim following their clash at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

Manchester United ace Rooney pushed Bolton Wanderers defender Ben Haim in the face towards the end of the first half.

Rooney escaped censure from referee Dermot Gallagher but, after reviewing video evidence, The FA have charged the England international with violent conduct.

Ben Haim has been charged with improper conduct by The FA, seemingly in response to his theatrical reaction to Rooney's shove.

An FA statement outlined the charges to both players, with Rooney due to have his case heard this week and he could face a possible three-game suspension starting on New Year's Day against Middlesbrough.

"Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for violent conduct," read a statement on The FA's official website.

"In addition, Bolton Wanderers defender Tal Ben Haim has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for improper conduct.

"The charges relate to an incident involving the two players during the match at Old Trafford on Sunday 26 December.

"In line with The FA's new Fast Track disciplinary system, Wayne Rooney is required to respond to the charge by 6pm on Thursday 30 December.

"If he accepts the charge, the automatic penalty is a three-match suspension. If he denies the charge, the case will be heard at a Disciplinary Commission on Friday 31 December.

"Tal Ben Haim has until 20 January to respond to the charge. The Fast Track disciplinary system does not apply to this case."

I think this will almost be a certain 3 match ban for Rooney. I read in The Times today that the matches he misses are not that big, but if United were to appeal it means he could miss the games against Liverpool and Chelsea. He would be a huge loss for those games seeing as RvN and Saha will both probably be injured, so Id say United will just accept the ban akin to what they did with RvN following the Arsenal incident, and hence not risk losing him for the bigger games.

As regards Ben Haim, its good to see his theatrics have not gone unnoticed. He has a lesser charge and will probably only get a one game ban. But it sets a good precedent for future incidents like this.

Good the see the English FA take some action on the reaction of Haim, it is a pity the Scottish FA are not on the same wavelength after the recent Lovenkrands Oscar show.

Spot on. The one against Liverpool yeah? There was about a metre between himself and Hamann when he went for his tumble.

I know the example I'm about to use is probably going to stir more shizzle than actually get an intelligent response, but did they use this in relation to Viera's dive earlier this season?

well if they did that then half the players in the premership would be brought up on charges

No bad thing though, especially if it cuts out the disgraceful behaviour at nearly every game in the league, week in, week out.

well handled by the fa i must say, fitting punishment for both.
however vieira has got away with murder in that case and Tal Ben Haim can feel hard done by.

I find it funny that a person only gets in trouble diving because he had a somewhat valid reson for it, while if you do it with no reason whatsoever you don't get called up on it :)

No, Rooney pushed his hand into the other players face. That is classed as violent conduct

The difference between this and Viera is that when you have your club chairman as a top man in the FA then it helps
A farce if ever there was one

You think the fact that he is an england international might have something to do with the other guys charges. you can bet that if a french lad pushed rooney in the face and he took a dive. rooney wouldn't get brought up for improper conduct!
It's all a lads club in the FA!!

I was htinking he should do what Shearer did when he booted Lennon in the face back then. Have a nice childish "If you charge me I'm not playing for the national team again" kind of spat akin to a "it's my ball so you're not playing" argument! :D

Had the ref spotted the incident and sent him off it would have been for violent conduct and he would have received a three match ban.

Ok, but I'm sure I remember someone trying to get a second yellow card so they wouldn't miss a big match which was not the next match, but the one after. Is it diffeferent for two yellows?

yer a certain player "tried" to get 2 yellows and would miss the match in 2 games time yet if he got sent off he'd only get the next game suspended.
They really need to stop this kinda crap (the fa i mean, either make it from that game on or not. Not both. Of course the players shouldnt be doing it in the first place...)

that could be the viera incident again, after his dive from hamann tyler suggested he could of done it on purpose to get a second yellow which was complete bollox.

if you get 2 yellows your banned for the next match.

viera has picked up his 5 yellow which meant that he would be free to play for the next 7 days, but after 7 days he is banned for the upcoming match.
