I'm in the market for one of them (headless Mac). I'd love another eMac or a G5 iMac but the Mrs says no way, too much money (even though she loves MY eMac). Headless G4 with a flat display would suit me nicely.

I think they could just pick up a ****load of PC users with this.

Every year since 1984 has been a golden year for Apple. :)

I'd upgrade to a G5 PowerBook 12" though. But I think the heat is still a problem for them.

Well, after single handedly inventing the MP3 player ( ) I guess Apple have a fair few bob to throw into these projects.

Hmm.. maybe the Mac forum's not the best place for this actually...

I just don't trust anything with that much marketing power.

Companies like Rio and Creative had plenty of time to gain market share like the iPod has done before Apple entered the market.. fair play to Apple for doing it properly, IMO.
I think the few bob they have to invest is around the $5 billion mark, so hopefully they do it well!
I think it'll be more like a headless iBook.. so I dunno, the idea is great but it'll probably end up being €600-700 and then when you add the cost of a monitor.. a couple hundred euro more and you'd actually get the iBook..

But what they did properly is marketing, not making MP3 players. In my opinion anyway. iPod has almost become a generic term and I hate it. Even my grandmother was asking about iPods this christmas - never heard of an MP3.

Cheap computers are great, but I bet if you looked around you could find a better priced PC.

That said, I'm sure things are only going to get better for Apple.

not to mention the well designed form factor, developing a great user interface, the easy to use desktop app to go with it, and then getting the online music store together... it's not just marketing

Have to aggree with that, its the sum of many parts and a great product. There are many mp3 players that do lots of things better than the Ipod but none imho that do them all as well.

I've had one for about 6 months but then I love gadgets but what surprised me was my girlfriends enthusiasm for it. This is a girl who hates "setting up" the dvd player ;) but adores the Ipod mini I got her for xmas.

    Sometime less IS more :D

Btw having played with OS X on a mates apple I'm rapidly becoming a fan. Maybe I'm getting older but I no longer enjoy sorting out Win/PC probs as the challenge I once did or maybe I just don't have the time. I really like the Macs ease of use and stability. If the 'headless ibook' sub $500 are true then I'd def pick one up esp since I have an old 19" monitor doing nothing.
