I have this image of a cd and it's 674mb.
    officeimage.JPG
    here the cd...
    officedrive.JPG
But if you select all the file on it is 1.13GB.
    officefiles.JPG
    What's going on?
It burns to a normal cd.

Probably because when it's unzipped it's 1.13? maybe?

It's not zipped though, it burns as is onto a 700mb disc, but if you select off the files on the burned disc, there 1.13 gb. No compression involved.
BTW i threw in an extra pic above.

I think I know whats going on. The image thinks it's 1.13 GB big, and when anything asks it (like windows), it will say it's 1.13GB big. However there is only 674 MB of data there. So if you tried to copy or move it, it might feck things up. Can you copy it OK?

I heard of a guy who manager to put a 1 GB file on a floppy using a method like this.

Copy's no problem. Suppose it might be some file misreporting the size, but this is before and after it has been burned. Hmmm.

has it happened with any other's?
    or just that 1?

Might be some kind of copy protection?

but would copy protection give misreadings?

Trust me when i say there is *no* copy protection on this cd :).
Happens across many computers. All i have looked at it on anyway.

try and locate the file on the cd that is creating the size reading error, and investigate it.

I have a disc like this too. Win2k Pro, Server & Advanced Server all crammed into one disc. If you make an image of it, the image file is less than 700MB, but if you copy and paste all the files and folders to the hard drive it comes to around 1.2GB. I believe it has something to do with common files between the 3 variants of Win2k being only recorded once in fact but somehow being referenced multiple times in the disc's table of contents resulting in the larger amount of data when you copy it to the hd because it copies these files 3 times. That's the only explanation i can offer at present, is it possible that your disc also has some jiggery pokery done with common files?

Edit: Just noticed in the pics of your original post that it is Office 2003 so I'd say the likelihood of mine and yours being similar situations is increased since they are both M$ discs.

Hmm, that sounds like what it could be. My disc has on it.

"Included on this CD are the following:

    1. Office 2003 Professional
    a. Microsoft Access
    b. Microsoft Excel
    c. Microsoft InfoPath
    d. Microsoft Outlook
    e. Microsoft PowerPoint
    f. Microsoft Publisher
    g. Microsoft Word
    2. FrontPage 2003
    3. Visio 2003 Professional
    4. Project 2003 Professional
    5. OneNote 2003

A number of other extras are included as well, such as:

    1. Office 2003 Editions Resource Kit Toolbox
    2. Office Visio 2003 Resource Kit Tools
    3. Office Converter Pack 5.0.2920.0.a
    4. Power Utility Pak 5 (with VBA Source Code)
    5. Kemosabe Version of Power Utility Pack 5 (2003-08-30)
    6. Kemosabe Version of Edwin's Power Tools 3.51 for Excel
    7. ASAP Utilities 3.05
    8. XY Chart Labeler 6.23
    9. Excel Code Cleaner 4.4
    10. Excel Utilities 1.5
    11. Excel Code Documentor 4.0
    12. Word Code Cleaner 4.4w
    13. MathType 5.1
    14. DisableWebToolbar 1.0.0
    15. Passware Password Recovery Kit 5.7
    16. FaceID images in pdf format
    17. Microsoft Press, First Look Microsoft Office 2003 eBook"

I suppose there could be some overlapping somewhere.
When you do a search in windows it looks inside some compressed file types.

I take it you have parted with about €1,500 for the legit licenses for this disk. Remember M$ have only $50Bn in liquid assets, failure to keep supporting them could affect the quality of future software releases !

Office 2003 that I have comes on 5 discs.
Disc 1 is Access,Excel,Frontpage,Infopath,Outlook,Powerpoint & Word and is 400MB. Disc 2 is Publisher and is 198MB. Disc 3 is Visio and is 227MB. Disc 4 is Project and is 154MB. Disc 5 is OneNote and is 78.4MB. Total 1,057.4MB so I reckon they could do it alright it there were a lot of common files.
