    How come:

    Cow = Beef
    Pig = Bacon and pork
    Sheep = mutton

    But

    Chicken = chicken
    Lamb = lamb

    :confused:

    Well, because cow and pig meat can be made into various things:

    Cow -> Beef, steak
    Pig -> Pork, ham, bacon, sausages

    So each of them has to have their own name. Whereas chicken, lamb, fish, etc. become only one type of meat. So they don't need different names...
