I was trying to setup a network between my pc and laptop today (both xp) and after a bit of messing around I finally got it working, but then I had some troubles with my internet connection.
I'm using a zyxel 600 and had my PC setup with the USB connection, and the laptop was working grand with the ethernet connection. Anyway I hooked the two PC's up with the ethernet cable and got the network working well enough, but I couldnt get the laptop to run off the internet connection on the PC. Next thing is I couldnt get online on the PC either. The network was working fine, but now my USB connection to the modem is ****ed and I cant get it running...anyone know what to do here? I've messed around with the settings and un/reinstalled the drivers but it doesnt seem to make a difference

    thanks for any tips,
    Adam

By your modem type I assume you are a IOL customer I've kinda had similar problems with networking and usb dsl modems. After installing the modem my network wouldn't work and after hours of ****ing about it still wouldn't work. So your best bet would be to use System Restore and go back to when everything was working and buy yourself a nice dsl router. Netgear DG834 does a very decent job on my IOL connection.

I'd also have a look at software firewalls if you have any running they can mess up their settings if you start faffing about with the cards/settings it uses.
