Does anyone know if its possible to make a DVD drive on a PC multi-regional?

I know you can change the region (I think up to four or five times), but is there a way to have it so that it will always just play any DVD I put in the drive?

    Thanks

Try AnyDVD from http://www.slysoft.com its a program that when running in the background will let you play and copy, as the name says AnyDVD.;)

the region setting is in the hardware of any dvd drive manufactured within the last few years which makes it very difficult to hack. I have a dvd player that was manufactured in 1998 or 1999 so thatis easy to hack for any region setting (I've done so).
If you're interested in buying that off me for, say, 80 euro let me know...I'll throw in the rest of the computer (pentium 2 350 MHz 64 meg ram 6 gig hd) and a keyboard and mouse.

Cheers Optikus, I've downloaded that and it seems to be working fine! Thanks a million.

Cheers for the offer PWD, but I think this app will do me.

Most dvd drives can be made region free if you are prepared to use hacked firmware , a slight risk but thats the risk you have to take , my two dvd drives are region free using hacked firmware , a crappy liteon 811 and my nec 3500 (a really great drive for backing up dvd's ) with no probs .

I preffer the AnyDVD route.. once the vob files have been copyed the copyright is completly removed so when you make Back ups they will be region free and play on any DVD player and not just the one with patched firmware, alot handier if you ask me.

Once you update the firmware, then its multi-region forever. If you can give the make and model of the dvd player, i'm sure someone can point you to the files you need to download and flash your system with.

Once your 100% certain you have the right files for the job, then its fairly straightforward.

There used be a windows application that would scan all your ide drives and then launch a website with firmware updates - think it might have been called disc pro or something. id recognise it if i saw it....

Used it quite a bit for updating burners as well as dvd region free purposes
