Connecting 2 pc's via USB ?

This is a bit of a newbie question so bear with me - I have an old pc without a network card and a new pc with all the bells and whistles. I was hoping to copy some of the files from my old pc to my new one. The old one only has a 3.5" floppy drive and some of the files are over 700 mb's so floppy's are not really an option. Is there a way of connecting the two pc's with a usb or something or will I have to go out and buy a network card for my old pc (Compaq Presario).?
Thanks in advance for your help.........

you could always remove the hard drive from your old pc and put it in your new computer as a second hdd.

could that cause problems with my new pc ie old hardware and new hardware - compatibility ?

A harddrive is a harddrive, you could move them over.

Alternatively you could buy a 15eur ethernet network card, and network them. Or you could buy a EUR30 (i think) usb network cable, and network em via USB. Alternatively, and possibly best, move the cd burner drive on your new computer into your old computer, and burn all the stuff on CD-RW to transfer it over.

I'd suggest a USB link cable. You'll find them for about 30 Euro in Peats or Maplin....

I'd not go for the CDRW option, as there's numerous files, some of which are over 700MB.

Ever hear of winzip or winrar? Just select the files, add em all into a zip file, and set winrar/winzip to split the archive at 700mb, so that you can transfer even the big files over on CD's.

If the old computer has USB 1.1 then a link cable won't be much fun.

If you want to be able to repeatedly swap files then get a cheap network card and connect them, if it is a one time only transfer then just add the old HDD to the new machine, it will be quicker, cheaper and easier than any other option.

your best bet is to move the harddrives over becuase then you can format the old hd after youve moved all the files.
The only problem you might encounter is the speed of your old hardrive, itll prolly be under 5200rpm so the file transfer would be pretty slow, other than that youd have no bother
