Depends on the situation. I txt a lot but obviously if I want an immediate answer I ring.

    ringing is easier (and cheaper)

    Wow 50-50 atm...

I prefer ringing just cos I'm dreadful at texting and I HATE text speak... all my texts go into three and four pages because I hate shortening words and leaving out punctuation

(and yes I'm aware I typed atm!)

    text...
i only ever ring my boss or if i meet a lady's no. in a pub, i'll ring her.
but other than that i hate ringing people.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 128 ✭✭Heineken

You gotta ring the girl first and, like, totally seduce her! I reserve my texts for when I'm just finished with one girl and I feel like some more action ;):D

    how....lovely.
i prefer ringing people but spend to long on the phone and end up having no credit.
and when you talk to someone on the phone, you can feel awful afterwards cause you want o see them instead of just hearing them? i'm not sure if that makes sence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭snappieT

On the basis that I can usually cram 160 characters into less than 20 seconds of talking, it works out better for me.

It also really pisses me off when someone txts you 'where are you?' and you respond 'outside' Total cost on vodafone: 26c. If you called, it'd be 5c max

    What did i do?

I hate texts, especially the type (like above) of "Where are you?". You reply saying where, and the response - "will you be there long?". At that point I give up.

Ringing is quicker, cheaper and alot more personal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,165 ✭✭✭DEmeant0r

Ringing is cheaper for moi, so yeah I prefer to ring than text.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,598 ✭✭✭ferdi

    depends on the situation.

i prefer text tho, i dont like talking on the phone, never have.

Unless I am in a situation where the person I am contacting or myself can not talk/have phone off I ring. Can text fast enough but ringing is cheaper for most things.

I usually text even though its usually cheaper to ring unless you're going to be talking for a good few minutes.

Also it could have something to do with the fact that people can never hear what I say because my phone is bloody useless. The excrutiatingly annoying thing is I can hear what they're saying....can't think of anything that wrecks my head more than this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

i find that its a lot more personal to ring someone, and people seem [to me at least] to agree to something more over the phone than by txt.

lads: never txt a girl; always ring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

I prefer to text, because I hate talking on the phone, and also texting is less.. intrusive. Someone might be in the middle of something when you ring, and if it's for something as simple as "when will you be there?", then you might as well text.
Also I hate when people are talking on the phone on the bus or somewhere, 'cause with phones you often have to speak fairly loudly, so it's annoying for everyone else. Or so I find.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid

prefer ringing, i generally dont answer text messages as I cannot read them on the newer phones the text is tiny. just delete delete delete without even reading them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

It depends on the situation and why you want to contact someone. If it is something very simple and direct then a text will do. If it is something more complex that requires a conversation then obviously you'd ring them, rather than going through a series of text messages.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp

I prefere to ring, but sometimes it is just handy to text..

I think texting is easier and better on battery life. I don't get much life out of the phone when i ring people all the time.
Besides, web texts can be typed with the keyboard so it's way faster than phone keypad. And they're free ;) Irregardless, i prefer texting because it's instant, non intrusive and private (nobody listening to you chatting on the phone). People can reply in their own time.

I just use both. Prefer ringing but certain times require texting instead of ringing...

Also, there's always the handy-if-outta-credit free "How are you?" text but then instead of somebody ringing back, they text back "fine. and you?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp

I prefere to ring, but most of the time it's easier to text.

Phone usually, although I used text a lot when I first moved to England, as It's hard to tell what some people are saying due to their accents.
