It will cost you an absolute fortune, bike very expensive plus replacing parts (probably cheaper to go snowboarding in another country) Hills in Ireland are crap, you'll be in mud for 9 months of the year and most downhill riders are dickheads. When you do get your two grand bike (and you will) chances are you won't want to damage the thing and just end up posing on it.

Scuba diving, paragliding, kite surfing, windsurfing, theres plenty of other adrenaline rush options.

thats not really true, im just startin gettin into mountainbiking and u dont have to buy a big travel expensive downhill rig first time, check out braydownhill.ie
You could think about picking up a second hand jump hardtail bike, much cheaper than a full susser!

You won't be doing much downhill on a hardtail. Even the XC types prefer full sus for spins and save the lighweight hardtails for racing.

Downhill in Ireland is in a sorry state right enough. Last years race program suffered several cancellations due to lack of interest, insurance problems etc. Its a better scene up north, if you're prepared to travel. Ironically, Irish DH riders are now amongst the best in the world and feature regularly in the top 10 of international competition.

There is an Irish Downhill website, which should answer your questions, google it.
