NFL on TV?

Do any other channels cover the NFL / American Football other than Sky? My parents have Sky Sports but (as they have NTL) no Sky Sports Xtra, and so miss most of the live NFL games. I really want to see the matches on St. Stephan's Day - what choices (if any) do I have?
    Thanks :)

NTL carry Sky Sports Xtra on their digital package. (channel 405)

Yeah NTL have it now at 405, thats all I can offer too :)

Do you have to pay extra for Xtra (:)) or will it come with the basic Sky Sports package? As far as I remember we have Sky Sports 1-3 at home.

C'mon The Steelers, I have 20 notes on them for the Superbowl at 7/1.

Don't know if you have to pay more for Xtra but there's an NFL highlights show on 404. I think it airs a day after the live coverage but I suppose that's no help to you on Stephen's Day!

Channel Five in the UK show different live matches to Sky. Usually they show the Monday night game live. Over Christmas and New Year they are showing the following matches:

Night of Dec 26th: Miami Dolphins — Cleveland Browns (01.30)
Night of Dec 27th: St. Louis Rams — Philadelphia Eagles (01.30)
Night of Jan 2nd: New York Giants — Dallas Cowboys (01.30)

The problem is that you can only receive Five with a UK FTV card for a Sky Digibox system. I don't think NTL carry it.

By the way the matches live on Sky on 24th and 25th December are on Sky Sports 1. Unfortunately, the matches on 26th are back on Xtra.

you can get NASN for 15E extra on sky. (www.nasn.com)
they have nfl, nhl, nba, ncaa, mlb and nascar, pretty much 24/7 and quite a lot live games

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,221 ✭✭✭Davey Devil

As far as I know nasn has no live NFL games.

    and you would be right
I remember them wanting the nfl contract last year when I stoped using them, looks like the misleading program name 'nfl live' is still only a recap show with no live game. sorry for the confusion

NFL live is a preview show of live matches — very good to watch before a live match on Channel Five. But you are right NASN don't have NFL live rights. While they got live NBA and NHL and live college football, there's no NFL.

Thx for the info all, hopefully we will have 405 at home (NTL Digital with Sky Sports package) - got €30 on the Colts at 7/1 over a month ago.

Had €70 at 11/4 last year on the Patriots, but didn't get the bet on until well into the playoffs - hence the short odds. Funnily enough, the odds on the Patriots and the Eagles are already fairly short. The AFL have the cream of the crop this year, whoever wins the AFL Championship game will surely win the SuperBowl.

I’d assume you mean AFC. But I wouldn’t write off the Eagles just yet, although losing T.O. is obviously a huge blow. McNabb and Westy is a lethal combo and IMO Westbrooke is the most underrated back in football. Not that other NFL teams underrate him. Lined up in the slot the guy is a HUGE mismatch for any linebacker outside of Brooks. He does lead the NFL in yards after the catch too. As an Eagle fan of 15 years I’m praying the defence can step up and stop the GODD*MN RUN. Improved as it is with Trotter in the middle and Simenoe at OLB. Trotter got to the Pro Bowl too which is pretty much a shock to me. Wouldn’t have expected him there to be honest. The NFC is Ultra weak this season but I’m not looking forward to the Pack coming to Linc for the champ game. It’ll be just our luck for Farve to carve us up.

If you have NTL in Dublin and have Sky Sports, then you have recently gotten SS Extra on 405, they didn't tell anyone

Yep, meant the AFC rather than the AFL!

Looking forward to the Packers vs. Vikings tomorrow night on SS1 - turns out we probably have SSX at home so I'll get to see my Colts vs. Chargers on St. Stephen's Day.

Dave, I'm a fan of college football too - attended Berkeley for a year 99/00 and had a season ticket, and caught the following two Big Games while living in SF. Great excitement beating Stanfurd!

    College football is far better.

More passion for the game from the players. BC and Syracuse would be my teams. Terrible performance and result for the Orange against Georgia Tech. They just blew us away. Ahh for the days when Donnie was our QB!!

Kencu believe it or not, im in Orlando at the moment and i actually went to see that game. The Champ sports bowl. I was rootin for Georgia cos they had some seriously cute cheerleaders!

What a great game tonite (Christmas Eve). What a QB #4 is. Culpepper had a great game, but Favre just stole it from under his nose.

Now onto the NFC championship game in Philly, me hopes.

    Happy Christmas, all.

i see youre for the packers. I was for the vikings, but mainly cos i love randy moss. Hes my favourite reciever of all time. Hes the excact same type of reciever as me, tall, lanky and skinny, but still manages to catch the ball and get yards.

Just saw an amazing game, Chargers at Colts - Manning was superb in the 4th, and what a game! Now got NE at NYJ :)

Oh, and Eagles for Superbowl ;)

yeah twas a quality game alright, and a bit of history made too with payton manning throwing 49 TD passes in a season, beating Dan Marino's record from 1984 with the Dolphins.

great finish to the end of regular time!

Goddamn stupid chargers! I'm not a fan of the pass happy colts or Vikings. Any team who purposely run the score on another team are unproffesional. Worried now tho, with Owen's out things have got a lot trickier for my eagles. Not concerned witht he loss to the Ram's as it was our reserves and Donnie drove for a TD on the one set he played.

    EAGLES ALL THE WAY!

And on a lighter note to the guy who said he plays like moss. :) that is all.

It's ok to run up the score, they are all over-paid Millionaires not college kids.
Eagles fans are lowest form of life in the states, they have a judge/court in the stadium it's so bad. They will be watching the Superbowl from the couch this year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭ionapaul

With Owens injury, odds on the Eagles have lengthened a good bit...might be a good time to put on some cash if you think they'll go all the way despite him...or if you think he'll be back in time!

Certain sections of the Linc(and formerly the Vet) are what you would call ahem*** Rowdy fans*** but thats a pretty broad generalisation. Just very passionate. And it's not OK to run the score if there is no need for it. Thats what manning did against the Texans early in the year. Bombing for the end zone with the game clearly out of reach and calling no huddle offense in the final drive despite being way up. That's not good sportsmanship, which despite the amount they get payed still should matter. Look at the eagles packers game when we blew them away. McNabb sat the 4th quarter.

And i still hope we can do it, at least getting over the proverbial hump and actually winning the NFC champ game, we couldnt lose it FOUR years in a row could we.

    Passionate???
JUST A BUNCH OF NASTY LOSER DRUNKS!

The team has always had nasty/dirty coaches and players like Buddy Ryan, Troy Vincent, Andre Waters, Brian Dawkins etc.

    The City as a whole…lets see…
Bill Russell was hit in the head by a glass beer bottle after a game in Philly. Philly fans feverishly cheered the apparent paralysis of Michael Irvin, who is far from classy but a human being nonetheless. I can only imagine their dismay when they found out he was okay and that he would walk again.
Darren Daulton's young child was booed, as was Santa Claus, and Donovan McNabb.

And I suppose the burning of opposing fans cars in the parking lot of the Linc/Vet and also mobs assaulting them is just passion.

No. You won't make it that far!

    :p

The Booing of Santa was funny, the booing of McNabb on draft day was a small bunch of moron’s who made the trip down with the intent on booing whoever we picked due to their dislike of Lurie. The cheering of Irving’s injury however was a total disgrace. An appalling act which I wouldn’t even try to justify and one which the majority of Eagles fans are ashamed of.

As for the dirty players coaches statement. DAWKINS! VINCENT! I think you’re mistaking class for dirtiness. You sound like a boy’s fan to me. Vincent is a class act all the way. And I suppose Reggie White (god rest) was also dirty.

As for not reaching the NFC game, the only team I’m even slightly worried about in the NFC is the Pack. The Vikes we can deal with because against that D we can still pill on the points. The Seahawks have no bottle, the Ram’s have Martz the Putz in charge and the Falcons are a one man offence, we have the speed on D to stop Vick doing his schniz.

The Pack however with a healthy Green can try to pound away at us and will give us problem if they manage the clock well, due to the fact that we lost ONE of our major game breaker’s in T.O. However with Westy and Donnie we can still beat anyone… well anyone in the NFC anyway.

~Oh and thank the lord that the Panther’s didn’t make it. I would not have liked to play those boys again.

Well I think my team the packers should take the Vikings fairly comfortably with the way they are playing and homefield advantage at Lambeau in January, very confident about it but playing Atlanta in the dome against Vick will be really tough especially the way they ripped us apart at lambeau a few years back but if we do voercome the Falcons then I think we can definately make the Superbowl and even though the NFC has been weak, its 1 game and you never know. All in all Pittsburgh still look the best
